About Forumosa.org

I think it was suggested that Forumosa.org might be used as an information point if Forumosa.com becomes inoperable.
If this is the case, and I think its a splendid idea, could someone please put some time & date markers on the site to let us know when the info is posted?
Also, there appears to be, or have been, some sort of feedback/comments section on Forumosa.org - but its baffling to me in my limited techpertise how this procedure works.

I hope all is well.

Did I post this in the wrong place?

really…I thought it was a good question

No, you didn’t. I made some comments about forumosa.org last time the site went down. Hold on and I’ll find you a link.

OK, here it is: forumosa.com/taiwan/viewtopi … 5&start=30

I also agree with you about the lack of dates. You can work it out from the URL though (although that’s hardly ideal).

Yes, it appears that the “comments” function has been removed. Lately the system has been buggy, and it’s impossible to predict when that will happen, so a “system down” type announcement isn’t very practical. I’m not sure why Goose Egg set the dates the way he did, but I know that the format can be easily changed. I’ll let him answer that one.

“moany old bastard”…heh heh heh…looks like the idea was thought about but never acted upon.

The reason I posted this is that when there is a problemo here - “debug” mode crap or can’t access - the first thing I do is click on my link to forumosa.org to see whats happening. Its a ‘blog’ type thing so I figure it would be easy for someoe to post a brief “We’re buggered again - working on it - be back soon” type message with a time and date.
Logical enough, eh?

As a final resort I go to the “other” site and wade thru pages of cryptic messages (we’re not allowed to mention Forumosa.com being down over there) and suss out whats happening here. Sometimes this works, some times its just too time consuming to do.

Thats all this thread is about.

heh heh heh…

But basically, I think that a lot of suggestions have been provided for in the past by many current and former members/mods. Those suggestions, had they been followed, would have resulted in a more robust site with minimal outages.

I’ll full stop here.

Where’s that bao zi we were promised?

You make it sound like we are completely unreasonable. And that there have been so many suggestions and they have been summarily dismissed.

I admit there are some decisions that are unpopular, but that we stick to anyway (like the various auto-censor discussions). And many times, I personally am slow to respond - I’ll shirk no blame for that.

But if we are really so uninterested in hearing ways to improve the website, then why are there so many ways to reach us? And you certainly know how to reach me directly, and yet I have to read your thoughts over here. “Thanks a lot”

And about those suggestions - how many came from you? If I recall correctly, very few. Actually, none, I’d wager, although I do remember that you were always quick to point out the obvious problems. Picking out what’s wrong is no challenge, it’s coming up with something to deal with what’s wrong that’s a lot more rewarding (for all of us). Back then, just to quiet you down while the rest of us thought of real answers to the way this site is built and rebuilt, I learned to ask you for solutions we could try. And it worked - I’ve barely heard a peep from you since

Full stop indeed.

TC, the dates are back on the blog. They were not there before because I had recycled that template from a version that did not require dates (for some simple web projects I dabble in).

To answer your question about when you can expect the forums to be stable, we chose 1 August as our “reboot” date (see another thread in this forum about that - no date was reported there). There was a stretch when these Repair Table problems seemed to go away, but they have returned lately, and I do not know what causes them

Goose -
Thanks. I appreciate your work. Doesn’t take much to make a techno feeb like me happy.

…now about numbering the posts in the threads…

Al in good time…all in good time.

Cheers, TC.

I missed your numbering posts suggestion. I’ll add it to the Reboot thread so I’ll remember. We had this installed once. I think it will be easy to add in time for Day 1 of the Reboot
