After consultation with several senior Forumosans, it has been decided to deep-six the flame forum. From here on in, you can expect any flames to die an instant, anonymous death. Repeat offenders of flaming will be warned by the mods, and possibly banned, if the warnings to desist flaming goes unheeded.
Stay tuned for a few more changes/modifications to the rules.
Yes they do entertain . Every so often, you get that gem of a flambe and it’s very tasty . Sad day of passing
OTOH, it’s understandable. So many of the flames and similar rants have a real mean spirit to them. You can flame without being a real asshole which unfortunately means you need some brains. Too many people would rather just punch the button and ride the Kong bomb to orgasm
“Please, please, please dont dispose of the flame forum, some of our best work is in there”
We should keep the forum, and if Sandman is not countered as a senior forumosan then who the hell is, unless it is being based on age, then Sandman might not want to qualify, he hopes.
Flame forums breed bad blood and generate a negative vibe. Doing away with an area devoted to people slamming each other is a sign of maturity for the board, IMO.
Flaming is a deterrent. It is giving punishment to those that need it. Don’t implement the “Instigator Rule” like in the NHL. ie no flaming section. You may get an overall nastiness over the board which would…make the site more fun…yah eliminate it…I change my mind.

^What he said…
To those of you who claim the flame as entertainment…two words.
I thought having a flame and flounder forum was a little redundant anyway. It’s the moderator’s job to decide whether something is worth keeping, being moved or instantly zapped. I just liked it for reference.
It can be useful to just let people let off steam, to rant and what not. Flounder seems to be a place where you put blather and other inane commentary that doesn’t have a natural home. Flaming isn’t always inane or useless; it can be quite useful and appropriate at times.
But it has been turning into a monster of recriminations and potential libel. All in all, if you want to let off steam, try another avenue. If you want to make a salient point, do so here without slagging people off beyond the pale.
That’s all.

Yes, it’s turned quite ugly in a few instances. What I’ve seen as to the flaming so far though, has been either (1) mutually guilty parties and/or (2) innocents, often newbies, mugged on the boards for inexplicable (to me) reasons.
Removing the flame board will not remove the situations in which people find themselves unable to resist scratching that trigger itch. In cases of too much collateral damage, you hope for quick moderator action. In a number of cases that cried out for moderator action, there was none. That calls for moderator review, not, let’s eliminate the flame board since the flaming didn’t occur on the flame board. I found it strange that with all the flaming going on recently, the flame board was under utilized. That meant to me there were wide variations on moderating standards by the moderators.
For example, there was a recent thread in which Maoman locked the thread to allow for a cooling down period before unlocking the thread. This was smart moderation. There’s a number of techniques a moderator can use to prevent the inmates taking over. It looks like they’ll start to be enforced (see stragbasher’s posting in his business & money forum). This will be more effective than removing the flame forum IMO.
Would it be possible to identify the mod who deletes or flounders a post/thread? I don’t mean their real name…just their Forumosa username. Example, “This thread was floundered/deleted by abcguy24”. Or…post by Comrade Stalin was deleted by abcguy24".
Typically, posts are flamed by one of the mods of the forum in which the post was originally placed. I know that only narrows it down, however, as most forums have multiple mods.

It would be nice to know if certain mods tend to flounder/delete certain posters more than others, wouldn’t it?
Most of the deleted posts are courtesy of Joesax and MJB, the moderators of the Vroom, vroom forum. (I have given them secret powers over the whole website.) MJB’s lives in Xindian on 367 Fulong road close to the Wellcome. combination to his security system is 366225. He’s usually out of the house by 9:00. He sleeps with the window open on hot nights, and there’s a tree right next to it for easy access. Joesax’s two children go to the CKS elementary school downtown. They are unusually trusting of strangers, and will generally talk to strangers, if the strangers have candy.
As one ‘good turn’ deserves another, I can now reveal that “Maoman” would be better named “Maowoman”! She is a 68-year-old Lithuanian spinster, the sole occupant of the Eluanbi Lighthouse. She keeps 13 cats who are very partial to 7-11 taquitos. The sad truth is that she has no human company and has resorted to creating this fictional persona, the mythical socialite, business owner and apparently all-round good guy “Maoman” as a conduit to play out her unrealised fantasies.
