Advice on selling things in Taiwan

I didn’t see any thread covering this, apologies if I missed it.

I can’t take another teaching job and I want to try to sell some stuff (prepared foods, spice blends, sauces, etc.). Of course I’m setting up a website and I will get some stuff up on yahoo but I also want to have a presence out in the world, maybe in a night market, traditional market, or some place on the side of the road. I feel like selling my foreignness along with some products that aren’t easily available in Taiwan so I want people to see me. I’m curious if anyone has any experience with this kind of business here. Any legal hassles with setting up a stand? I see illegal stands in night markets running when the cops come. If they bust me would I be expelled? If I set up in the wrong place without paying the local don, are some local guys going to come break my kneecaps? Any ideas about the price of doing it in a more legitimate way? Anyone know prices of space in trad. markets or night markets? Anyone have any idea on who to talk to about that? Any thoughts on good locations in or around Taipei city? Places with some foreigners running around alongside younger Taiwanese, would probably be ideal. My Chinese is decent, not fluent but certainly conversational. I live in Taipei county but I’m guessing it’s a bit too local out here and my Taiwanese is not good.

Thanks for any responses! I’m really curious to hear if anyone here has tried this.
