After 7-11 ... Meet 7+1

Hello,

I wonder if they are authentic or just a copy? They exist more than one time in Hsinchu and Nanliao:

7+1 !

If this was a parody I’d think it brilliant.
But since this is Taiwan, :wall:

I believe it is a copy of 7-11~
The sign was even made to look like 7-11’s except for the “+1” part~ :no-no:
I’m wondering if 7-11 can sue that store by the law in Taiwan.

Well as far as I understand the taiwanese laws concerning this they could sue if damage was done to them and if at least 3 things aren’t diffrent in their logo (not the case in this one).

I think I’ll go inside next time, and film it

I’ve seen a “6-11” in Taiwan. Looked exactly like a 7-11 too. I can’t remember where exactly, but it might have been around Taoyuan.

Could you find it again? Maybe its good to make a pool of this photos on flickr.com
There is a 9-11 in Taichung on TaiZhongGang Lu (台中港路) and a KLC (fake of KFC) outside the city.
I’ll try to make photos next time I drive there.

Definitely illegal and downright sleazy. They could and should sue.

But then again, Subbers is just as bad and they seem to be getting away with their illegal practice as well. As long as the court system in Taiwan is a joke people can get away this kind of blatant thievery. And Taiwan wants to be treated like a civilized nation. :unamused:

there are KLC’s and and few other knock offs all over taiwan. although there were more a few years ago …

I still remember cans of “I WANT BEER”, which had a blue logo on it almost identical to Taiwan Beer. And there was also “Tsing I Tao” beer.

If you’ve been here a while it’s hardly surprising. I think I’ve seen shops with the same design using an eight in place the same seven in the pokey little towns. Before I came to Taiwan I didn’t realise there was hundreds of different ways to spell adidas.

There’s also KLG. I think G stands for the chinese word for chicken.

True, but it’s one thing to illegally manufacture counterfeit abibas shirts, Junsports backpacks and pirate music and videos in a hidden factory, to secretly distribute them throughout Taiwan and the world. It’s another thing to brazenly open a fake store or restaurant on a busy street, with the illegal acts openly displayed for all the world to see. Takes guts.

The public prosecutors should take the initiative to prosecute such perps on their own and the judges should give them harsh jail sentences to show others who might be tempted to do the same, and foreign businesses who are wary of doing business in Taiwan, and the US government that is sceptical of Taiwan’s claims that things are under contol here, that such crimes will not be tolerated in Taiwan. But of course that will never happen. Although you’re seeing both a public crime and a private civil offense, Taiwan’s authorities lack the motivation, basic understanding of right and wrong, and understanding of how to do their jobs that are needed to do anything about it. Such crimes are only punished when the injured business takes action and, even then, they have great difficulty obtaining justice in this incompetent legal system.

And their chicken is much much better, and cheaper, than the KFC near-by.

Ah, the taiwanese art of seeing a good idea and plagiarising the shit out of it! Why not inform 7/11 HQ about this? Im sure they would be interested.
Why not inform 7/11 HQ about this? Im sure they would be interested.
Mmm. I don’t know. The fake 7-11s in my neighborhood are open and closed again so fast I don’t think they’d have time for discovery, let alone a trial. They probably figure it’s not worth the legal fees.

And this classic:

Last year, a team prospecting locations for a new KFC restaurant arrived in a northeastern Chinese city only to discover a KFC already in place. At first they assumed the home office had made a mistake, but upon closer inspection they realized that the restaurant was a fake from top to bottom, including uniforms, logos, the crispy-spicy chicken, and even the likeness of the Colonel himself.

Really? There’s one near my old place (Close to Academia Sinica, Nangang), and I almost puked the one and only time I got a meal from there (as did my wife). Seriously.

Well, the Colonel does look a little more Asian here in caricature than I remember…

If the the G represents “ji”, and assuming the K might stand for Kaohsiung, then what on earth does the L in “KLG” stand for?

Apparently this in Japan. Is the same as what you guys are talking about?

Here’s a fake KFC in China

and their fake logo

and here’s a totally phoney fake McDonalds in Thailand

and another

I don’t think KLG is so bad. Sure, they use the same colors, their chicken looks frighteningly like the Colonel’s face, and they choose a three letter abbreviation starting with K, but it would still be hard to mistake for the original. I think KFC could make a case about the logo being too similar, but the store name similarity is their own fault for shortening their name to just 3 letters.

The 7 + 1 is blatant because they copy the colors and symbol and make the (+1) small in the hopes of attracting people.
