Ain't no Lie, Europe bye bye bye

Oh dear - what is happening in the UK?

Starmer not woke enough?

For me, that is Europe’s strength. Sure it’s easier to sell across the US mainland, but Europe’s a more interesting challenge.

I also agree with many American opinions that Europe stagnated, and got too star trek idealistic, but I see that as a challenge to change, not defend. My 2 cents.

Just to be clear. All this schadenfreude about Europe’s long term economic decline is because it wouldn’t step in front of Trump and take a bullet for him in the Strait of Hormuz?

Rich Brits are leaving in record numbers.

Brits are coping with being poorer than Mississippi. How does a nation that once controlled the world maintain any dignity when its breakaway colony’s poorest state is richer?

Oh my…

It’s about time Americans like yourself became aware of just how dependent Europe was on your tax dollars.

I know that Trump seems to be the be all end all for many…his rise is really a geopolitical symptom that we have ignored for too long.

You’ve got a point. General Bonespurs is so busy dodging bullets in America why should he have to dodge bullets in the Strait of Hormuz too?

This is a disingenuous and dumb comparison, as Mississippi or any state in the US doesn’t have a national debt or the assets that go with a nation such as a military.

Now go compare the size of economies… I bet the result is different.

Better yet, walk around your average town in Mississippi and Britain, and compare. You do understand the difference between the mean and the median, right? The unequaled ratio of wealth disparity in the U.S. skews the statistics. By most measures, the standard of living for the average Western European is higher than that of the average American. If you use paper wealth alone as the only unit of measurement then that metric gives a misleading impression.

I might be able to be convinced otherwise, but GDP per capital when applied to states where there may be producers using the labor there but not based there, seems like it’s likely highly lacking as a measure of wealth of the state. Ie what difference does GDP (measuring value of final goods and services) per capital in MS do for workers beyond their jobs (good for those specific workers, but relevance of GDP per capital metric overall?) when Nissan builds cars or Ingalls builds a ship in MS and sends the bulk of the profits elsewhere? I have a tough time seeing that as a relevant metric of wealth in state.

And, of course, as you mention, per capital wealth (nevermind GDP) is grossly misrepresentative of the wealth “on the ground” as it were in places with high income inequality. Hell, just comparing average vs median wealth or income gives a peek into this (but hardly captures it).

Location makes a difference. Old money in Natchez MS, very different to the White Trash areas in MS. Likewise, Brighton is a fuck of a lot different than Blackpool. Saying the standards of UK are lower than MS may be right in many indicators and wrong in many indicators and general comparisons aren’t that useful.

Yeah… I know it hurts to watch your beloved UK go down the drain…

I’m a big believer that the only way to save the UK is to have it join the USMCA somehow.

Might mean some Confederate arse kissing tho…

And Australia - the population of Taiwan AND the economy of Florida lol.

@ExpatDad

Your hate for all of America’s allies is weird, and seems to be ramping up now it appears Trump will sellout Taiwan. Guess you’ll soon start to turn against Taiwan with your posts too.

Ppp is da bes!!!

What Spain started by blocking Americas use of its bases will hurt Europe even more in the end.

The US will insist on owning the land to prevent a “host” nation from blocking the airspace again.

First stop: Greenland.

Although not really in Europe lol

I don’t hate Europe lol. I pity it.

Europe has sadly gotten smug and has forgotten what has led to its success. And instead of taking it on the chin Europe is doubling down!

And Europe is not an ally. Allies help you see…not sure if you’ve been watching the news but the US has moved on from Europe and to the Middle East nations/kingdoms.

going to Europe next week - it’s been a while!

Oh gee maybe leaving it all to the US and coming to their help symbolically was a better deal!

My money is on Europe expecting Ukraine to pay back the loans after the war is over to cover their military spending. Good luck with that!

The US is to take out weapons and personnel out of Europe.

Do you think that, should the US have another democrat persident next (doubt it but just in case), would the US put the stuff back?

The problem with the EU is that is has never really had a stress test other than the 2008 crisis. And that wasn’t handled well at all: Greece told to be austere despite Germany now not being.

The problem is that you’ll never have a scenario where France will send its pension fund money to help Italys financial system…or Poland paying for Germanys military..

The EU doesn’t have the political or cultural structure to be like the US…and we are gonna watch the potential unraveling in real time as the block splits into factions.
