Air pollution levels in Taiwan - grim reading

We all know China plays the long game. But giving millions slow burning terminal illnesses in decades to come is a hard one :upside_down_face:

The happy time of the year is back - F*ck you Taipei with your clean air. You deserve every drop of rain you get, little London!

Good, thatā€™s off my chest. Letā€™s now fill it with some free floating minerals and metals.

Ugh, yup. We are back to polluted Taiwan season for next 6 months. I got accustomed to not having the smell of pollution whack me in the face when going outside.

ā€œBadā€ is not as abysmal as Kaohsiung, the leading capital of lead in the air lol. Hengchun, let me see your real estateā€¦

Itā€™s pretty bad today yep.

Wind comes from the East, must be China.

Except where I live I can look around and see smokestacks pumping pollution into the air, and smoke from I donā€™t know what, and I can smell woodsmoke, and there isnā€™t much breezeā€¦ so yeah, China. Republic of.

Not to mention that China lies to the west. (I think that was the joke )

Seems to me that there is something funky in multiple directions. I tend to notice the very local - like neighbour level local: cooking oil, leaded paper and cigarettes.

As a reminder, lung cancer is Numba 1 in cancer deaths in Taiwan. Enjoy.

Cooking gas and lack of ventilation ainā€™t helping nobody neither me reckons.

The blaming china thing has become a joke because itā€™s such a sad face save for our own, in house, despicable behaviors and habits. But they bad tooā€¦

I just quit smoking last month after years of 1 pack a day consumption. I already start wondering if that still counts if I inhale a pack a day unvoluntarily in winterā€¦

It all counts. You just didnā€™t realize you actually were breathing in 2 packs worth before lol :hugs:

Congrats on making the decision to quit. I noticed when I gave up smoking that it made me hyper sensitive to smoke for a time. But it faded back to normal again slowly. A bit like the way the cravings faded.

All the exhaust from the various combustions going into a tiny gap between two buildings bordered on each side by kids bedrooms, what could possibly be wrong with that!

Good job on that. I smoked a pack a day for years. Marlboro Lights. I quit about 17 years ago, and then started upping my running game, which ultimately ended up with me doing sprint triathlons. I recommend doing more sports because you wonā€™t want to ruin progress by starting to smoke again.

Awesome! I do, I substituted the cravings with Bodycombat VR training daily plus weight lifting and exclusively eating healthy foods, completely avoiding processed sugar and carbs wherever possoble and daily trips to the beach for swimming.

So far it worked like a charm and Iā€™ve grown more buff in a short time. Had no idea how fast my body would transform when making such a major change but now canā€™t imagine to go back to an unhealthy life ever again.

But of course the healthier I live, the more South Taiwan starts bugging me with its lingering third-world-ness. Any kind of pollution just widely ignored by the local and country government, rampant corruption in politics, ignorance of society, chabuduo mentality,ā€¦

In every river I see shit floating and milky discharges channeled in, every winter the air quality is beyond third-world standard, light pollution all night long, traffic of a lawless country, and the worst part, very little change over the last 10 years and society keeping a low standard. The only developed place is Taipei, the rest of the country is basically abandonned by politicians and the actually ruling mafia. Definitely learned nothing from the Japanese and running it all down, only focused on prestige projects instead of tackling the essentials. It just wont get better somehow :frowning:
