I just bought an air quality monitor called the Kaiterra Laser Egg. Anyone else have this?

I do not have this, but I researched it some time ago. Apparently it is quite good, but it is no match for a proper measuring station since in line with all the cheap portable household devices it uses a highly simplified technology. My conclusion therefore was that it is better to rely on proper measuring stations as long as you are happy to trust the authorities and do not live in the middle of nowhere where there are no measuring stations

Ok, good to know.

I have had the Laser Egg (鐳豆2) for 3 days now and am very pleased with the product. I have noticed a relationship between how my eyes/throat feel and the number on the display. The higher the number, the more uncomfortable I feel.

Now I’m going to replace the filters on my home air purifier (which is a separate appliance from the Laser Egg), and see how it affects the number displayed on the egg.

And you think WE have a problem …

Yes we have a problem . Poor air quality again today.
What is that a map of?

Man, I just brought up this. I guess I won’t whinge about Taiwan so much?

The website is weird. A few bad cities totally skews the overall color index. Once you really zoom in you see reality.

Yeah it looks like garbage.

This is the situation in Europe rights now.

That doesn’t make sense, why would all that be polluted.

Windy.com one makes more sense to me. AQI of 175 (the main orange/red mass) is equivalent to 100 μg/m3 on my map.

Use that one and you’ll see why it’s weird.

Some tiny fires? That doesn’t explain the discrepancy.

No. It seems to take a few high readings in cities and cover the entire area red instead of localizing it.

It obviously shouldn’t do that.

:flushed:

Look at the wind direction. It’s all local.

Also, it’s the 15th day of the lunar month so time to burn those joss.

It looks like (I have no data, just my eyes) an air apocalypse this morning.

Location: stuck in the basin of Taipei City. : (

Uh-oh. And aqicn.org reports PM 2.5 exceeds 100 in many parts of Taipei.

Put otherwise: that’s not fog.

One of my clients gave me this site address the other day. It’s real time data from stations set up at many schools.

Some of it might be fog, by the way. I happened to be holding a piece of paper while standing outside this morning, and the paper got unusually damp. I wonder if fog affects the sensors…
