Hey everyone, I had a terrible experience with a Xiaomi Air Purifier 3 which really messed up my allergies and caused a lot of breathing issues. I’ve realized that many cheaper HEPA filters in new air purifiers produce a plastic smell which takes time to dissipate. In my case it didn’t go away even after running continuously for 72 hours. Xiaomi Customer Care said this is expected. So I’ve decided to return my unit.
Can someone recommend a True HEPA Air Purifier that doesn’t have any plastic smells at all? In the US I used Levoit without any issues, but it would take several weeks to get that in Taiwan. I’m ideally looking to buy one tonight if possible, since it’s getting really hard for me.
The ones at Costco are high quality. I think cheapest model starts at 7k. I used one to get rid of moldy smell from my room. Pretty sure they are all carbon activated with hepa filter.
You mentioned Winix Zero earlier. Did it not have any plastic smell in the beginning? Do you smell anything if you stand right in front or above where the air is emitted? I heard that even some of the expensive ones have this smell, since it depends a lot on the manufacturing process.
I didn’t smell anything and I’ve owned two of these. Also it’s Costco so you can return easily in person if there’s an issue.
There’s a tiny bit of plastic smell if you put it on full blast and put your face over the air vent. But maybe that’s the smell of the filter itself, it’s not something I’ve noticed so not sure if it’s actually plastic smell or just the smell of air.
By the way for local air purifiers you can try this place, they have lots of models on display for you to checkout and grab the same day: Tsannkuen 3C, No. 115號, Zhongzheng Road, Shilin District, Taipei City, 111
I use Coway too, they do have some plastic smell for the first couple of days but I didn’t have any issues. Have a big unit in the living room and another in the baby room.
There’s a local brand that I’m considering. Seems a notch above the usual purifiers. Costs around 13k. Anyone had experience with this? https://drair.com/
