EVA Air has apologized to the family of a flight attendant surnamed Sun (孫), who died after falling ill at work, after an employee sent a message to the deceased worker’s phone asking her to submit leave application documents.
There’s some serious organizational bullsh&t in that company. Will this terrible press lead to some change, or will they dig in and continue as if everything is fine?
Guy
Just shameful. I grew up flying Eva so I have found memories. But their behavior is just ridiculous
Probably gonna be at least another 5-10 years before any Taiwanese airlines get decent high-speed onboard internet like Starlink, considering Starlink is banned here.
I’m definitely not looking forward to people being on video-call with full volume for the entire duration of the flight… ![]()
This incident is appalling and unbelieveable . I hope EVA gets taken to the cleaners world wide (at least their reputation) until solid change is made.
If somone is seriously ill the captain should be informed and an emergency landing may even be in the cards. The cabin manager should not have this authority. This should rest with the Captain of the flight.
My ex a long time ago was a Senior Purser with Cathay. There was a Captain on the flight and there was a Chief Purser and two Senior Pursers. At that time it took about 7 years to become a senior purser and about 10 years to become the Chief Purser. IN the event of an illness on board the Captain is be informed and will make relevant decisions. An illness of a crew member on a flight is a serious matter. At least with Cathay. My then gf fell ill just before a flight boarded and the captain was informed and a replacement crewmember was put on the flight. This was at home port so it was easier for Cathay to manage. But I am sure a serious illness will not be taken lightly by the company. EVA has serious management rules issues to allow a cabin manager this level of authority. At the very very least this manager should be fired And the airline forced to pay huge compensation (although nothing brings back a life) and change its corporate governance.
It is shameful incident. Back when i used to meet my GF’s flight on a overnighter in TPE (which happened sometimes) i would take the crew bus along with her to the hotel. And she had to ask the CAptain for approval. The Captain in CX was always very involved even with small matters. Much less an inflight crew illness. In flight passenger illness is also to be taken seriously and the CAptain is informed if it is serious.
FAIK, an incident of a seriously ill flight crew member will be brought to the attention of the Senior Pursers and Chief Pursers and the Captain who will then contact Dispatch as well.
There should be a well oiled mechanism for any major issues including serious crew illness.
