Inflight service, possibility of delays/getting your luggage lost, overall plane conditions.

it really depends if you transit through MUC or FRA, class of booking and which aircraft you’ll fly.

Transit through FRA are shite, MUC much nicer.

A350s are nice birds and LH Y and PY are not that bad for the price. The old non-allegris J class is crap, for real. Allegris is so confusing and some seats still don’t work…

On the bags, really depends on how long the connection is. In FRA anything below 3 hrs is a gamble, in MUC 2 hrs will do.

If you fly in F, you are in for a treat! First class terminal at FRA or first class lounge at MUC, porsche escort to the gate, caviar service and some of the most comfy beds in the sky.

I think being in a private jet is more probable than F class for most forumosans.

The FRA / MUN comparison though is useful. I wonder why Frankfurt lags behind?

one simple thing: the bloody stupid long hallway between the schengen and non-schengen areas of the airport. then literal traffic jams of the busses from remote stands and potential very long lines at immigration (especially for non-EU ppl).

I think we have quite some people on here playing the “mile game” (not me :see_no_evil_monkey: ), i.e. strategically using credit cards to collect as many airline miles as possible and then use them for maximum rewards. Like that, it still seems to be somewhat possible for an “average Joe” to end up in first class.

The entire airport is confusing, understaffed and always under construction. Not as bad as Paris, though.

I’d say they’re pretty average. No reason to avoid them - but I also wouldn’t pay a premium to fly with them.

this. the sweet spot might be premium economy, it not shabby at all in the great scheme of things. And they have it on basically all long haul flights.

LH is ok, flew it out to Europe was on time, clean planes

That, in a nutshell, is why many airlines are cutting back on or even completely eliminating F class! People with enough money to pay cash for these seats (as opposed to playing mileage games) are presumably rich enough to own their own planes, or spaceships, or submarines, or whatever other toys they want to buy.

Guy

Probably not.

First class tickets (for medium to long range) might cost roughly in the range of $10k (USD) to 15k. For a private jet, that seems to be the hourly cost. So a private jet is easily 10-20 times the price of a first class ticket!

Also: Business travellers. Some are allowed to book first class if BC is sold out.

I’d say there’s still lots of space between the “rich” (multi-millionaires who can easily afford a couple of FC flights a year) and the “ultra-rich” (billionaires who own a jet or two…).

I strongly suspect that F class remains largely populated by mileage game players as opposed to cash paying customers. But you are correct, I don’t have stats to back up my assumptions, only limited data points as I’ve seen the airlines I typically take cut back on F class routes to a minimum.

The growth I’ve seen is in premium economy, with the airline I usually use recently expanding the size of that mini cabin on its long haul flights. None of this though has anything to do with Luftansa which, I should confess, I’ve never flown.

Guy

From what I’ve read, premium economy is the most profitable class: People pay a premium, but it requires far less space than a BC (or even FC) seat. And utilization is usually very high.

FC seats seem to be more difficult to fill up compared to that, yes.

Regarding Lufthansa, they seem to focus on selling different types of seats within class (maybe following the example of German car manufacturers where any small detail costs extra…?). Even in BC, selecting a “premium” seat will cost extra!

And (at least according to what they tell the press), they still consider First Class to be a “central” part of their business:

“We are back on track to become Europe’s number one premium airline,” said Lufthansa Airlines CEO Jens Ritter at a press event on Wednesday (January 19).
First Class plays a central role in advancing to the Champions League. “Our guiding principle during development was to create a space where you feel at home,” says Ritter. Lufthansa offers four seats in the top booking class at the very front of the aircraft on each Airbus A350. All are suites with floor-to-ceiling walls and lockable doors. “Creating privacy was very important to us,” says Ritte

And (“funny” detail):

The Suite Plus can also be booked alone. However, you’ll pay more. The surcharge is €2,500. Lufthansa says that around two-thirds of bookings for the larger First Class Suite are currently for solo travelers.

Not LH directly, but LH group related.

Ytd I flew from HKG to ZRH on LX, and I was very pleased to learn that LH group for premium passengers contracted the incredibly nice QF lounge at HKG, notwithstanding the presence of SQ lounge (with F section too).

Thanks to this, I have visited all One World lounges at HKG, and QF is up there with the best from CX. Big, airy, plenty of showers, dimsum cart going around, nice bar. Loved it. And since it’s a bit hidden, never crowded.

Tipying from another a bit secluded lounge, the Alpine at ZRH, love it too!

Enjoy your trip (going to Malpensa?)

The non-schengen Swiss lounge has nice bar area

the self service area

And I enjoy the snacks on the aeroplane (Swiss version of what I like in Italy) + kagi (which 7-11 has it)

ITA flight almost hits another scary

https://tw.forumosa.com/t/the-friday-bin/224561/718

On time, flight from Estonia to italy.

I had decent service, from Japan/Asia to mostly Frankfurt. (Did have ipad taken on the way to the airport, but nothing to do with airline and more the city of Frnakfurt). Where will fly with them?

One flight a few years ago from San Diego USA to Germany was delayed as we a stop to help a sick passenger, as handled well and made my connection to Estonia/Finland. (not airlines fault)

just had my first longhaul flight on ITA Airways (AZ), BKKFCO. Folks, fingers crossed, they might be on the right path. It was a very pleasant flight where they stuffed me and made me drunk haha.

2yrs old A330-900neo, this seat is custom made for them. A bit flimsy, but heaps of space in the footwell. Slept well.

Now the food galore, typical Italian service: Appetizer, First course, second course, cheese (in lieu of dessert), then coffee (espresso) and grappa. Had with the snack another coffee and an amaro instead. All the food was quite good considering the out-station catering, the wines were very good (had the entire wine list, no fucks given, Trentodoc Ferrari, ribolla gialla, Fiano di avellino, Kalternsee DOC, Brunello di montalcino, Ippolito di Calabria, Grappa from veneto barrel aged, amaro from sicily, plus a campari spritz)

Plus on the connecting flight FCOLIN they had the cutest prosecco miniature bottle

hope they keep at it like this, will consider trying it again from HND once they fully join SA so I can use my BR miles to redeem/upgrade.

You sir may now be on that airline’s “no fly” list.
