Its not that easy to close an airport thats been around for awhile.
I think Songshan will find itself being an important base for China flights and some to HK and Macau to take over from the former domestic flights. And perhaps some private air traffic as well.

No. Though you are right it will probably be used for direct flights. And given the small number of daily flights, it wouldn’t really add much to noise and air pollution as you argued before. So, I am fairly indifferent to it now. Just wish they would get the MRT to the airport built so this wouldn’t be an issue.
