Alabama passes bill banning abortion

It does.

Banning abortion might; I hear it may be so in a Georgia law that’s pending.

Overturning Roe would not make interstate travel illegal, even to receive abortion services where they are legal.

Just happened in Argentina. Raped 9 year old died horribly because no medical abortion was allowed.

In Central America you can go to jail for spontaneous abortion - losing a child due to natural causes- and also for IV treatment. Lose lose.

It would be like Central America: women are prosecuted for seeking such services abroad.

Uh huh. Just like Central America, no doubt.

Well, your Evangelical mega churches paid for those laws. Testing ground I guess.

So who can post the MSM article that’s suddenly got everybody’s knickers in a twist?

Sounds like they want to use the news from Alabama to do a little fundraising to me.

I saw that movie, too. I hated that they shot Michael Caine’s character for asking for a finger pull.

a lot of people would draw a line somewhere between pro-choice (mother can decide until a baby come out) and pro-life (fertilized egg is a life). Abortion in cases like the Indian girl should be allowed by my line, but majority of people in some states in the US think the girl should give a birth. Hmm

Men and women will see this issue differently always. Many men still believe a woman can choose to get pregnant or not, like mentally control her uterus and ovaries like one controls the bladder. Wasn’t it one of your senators who had to be explained that it was not so?

If they take away abortion, will they lift the restrictions on contraceptives? Who wants to bet they will be more expensive and harder to get? And that is for the ones who have a choice, and means to acquire them. In a country without widely available medical system, what provisions are made for deformed babies, child mothers, and the resulting orphans? The US already has infant mortality rates that match developing countries. But the worse numbers are with the black communities. Rather than helping the country heal, this will open racial fractures worse than before.

I lived in that movie. Go there, go to a church, turn on the so called Christian radio stations. What mega churches have spread and keep spreading is worse than hate. Yes, they use our money, what millions tithe to get satellites to spread the word. Tune in anytime and listen.

Well, banning abortions should certainly help that stat.

Less facetiously, overturning Roe will not ban abortion in the USA. Abortion services will still be widely available, although restrictions will certainly vary by state. Overturning Roe will not make interstate travel illegal, not even to purchase abortion services.

Still wondering where everybody’s getting all the incendiary, dystopian ideas about the dire straits the US has fallen into. Or will fall into if [insert fear here].

eta: Eh, probably not true. I go hard dystopia at the thought of socialists gaining any real power in the US. Identity politics kinda brings out my dystopian fears, too.

And they are the one that object to birth control.

Large numbers of women are anti-abortion.

I think that’s a tough one. Some people think life is sacred and killing it under even such terrible circumstances is still not ok. That’s a different way to see it than they’re evil ass holes making the girl suffer. They just don’t want to kill a life. I don’t think that reasoning is evil.

Not really, a large majority advocate the use of birth control or abstinence instead of abortions. I don’t think that’s an accurate statement for the US where Christians are mostly Protestants.

There is no doubt that abortion ends a human life. And I believe human life is precious, all human life.

However, I am equally revolted by the thought that a rape victim might be forced to carry a baby to term, that she might be forced to nurture the very real and natural evidence of the crime committed against her. A bridge too far in my book.

A horrible situation, and unfortunately in that situation the child dies or the mother suffers unconscionably. Another of life’s unfair Sophie’s choices.

@Andrew0409, that was supposed to be a general comment, sorry I managed to direct it at you.

What do you mean? Unless it’s the case of rape which is illegal. You can choose to not get pregnant by not having sex. You can almost limit your chances to none if you use a combination of birth control, condoms, and morning after pill If say the condom breaks.

It’s extremely unfair. But I feel like people are painteinf the picture of these people that believe killing a life is worse is doing so out of spite and evil purposes. Which is not the case.

I do take issue with how the rape rhetoric gets used for abortion. Abortions from cases of rape are extremely rare, that’s clearly not what most pro choice advocates are actually just advocating for. It’s a completely different thing to advocate abortion because some doesn’t feel like it, it’s a incovience, change their mind than say medical reasons and cases of rape.

Unfortunately in a shit ton of urban America and among the most impoverished Americans abortion, or more specifically the right to abortion granted by Roe, is reportedly seen as a completely justified post-pregnancy birth control option.

Abortion as birth control is just wrong. Most Americans agree - although not all. Nearly all who disagree are Democrats. In my experience talking to Democrats, many can’t bring themselves to admit it’s a human that’s being destroyed. It’s just cells. They seem to see it as no different from shaving dead skin from the bottom of their feet. They also tend to avoid eye contact and in general they do not like any prolonged discussion, no matter how unjudgmental that discussion is.

Abortion used as birth control is not a civil right in my book. It’s murder.
