Fortunately we got earlier tickets to Chiyayi HSR from Taipei. We reach Chiyayi HSR @ 9.10am next Friday.

For here, if we are lucky we get to catch bus 7329 at 9.30am (otherwise there is another bus at 10.10am) to Alishan

We will choose a hotel in Xiding to stay for the night, because of this blog review.

to avoid morning rush to catch sunrise from Chushan. Also the Eryanping Trail (Google Maps) is near Xiding as well.

After reaching Alishan in the afternoon, we got time till 4.40pm (Last bus no. 7329) or 5.10pm (Last bus no. 7322) i.e. just 4 hours!

We could do the Alishan Loop hike (Sisters pond, giant sacred tree) 4 kms + may be something more?

Then we return to Xiding to catch sunset at Eryanping Trail.

Next morning we watch sunrise from Xiding observation deck. Then take bus to Alishan again - do some more hikes - or we could go to Fenqihu and do some sightseeting. Not sure if we should go back to Alishan or Fenqihu. Any suggestions?

Afterwards, we catch the last bus to Chyayi and then back to Taipei via HSR.

Sounds like a plan. I would go to Fenqihu instead of going to the forest recreation area twice.

Sounds like you have it sorted. Watching the sunrise from the peak is enjoyable though. The crowds can be a bit much. But it’s like watching the sun rise across the dragons back. The way the mountainous regions surrounding the area light up. Take some warm clothes if you decide to do that because it does get cold up at that height.
