Jeez.
Wide awake at 0330.
Five day forecast with no rain.
And my oldest friend back home emails me to mention that I left Canada 20 years ago today.
The day hasn’t even started yet.

Congratulations! … You actually still have “friends back home”. After 20 years, I would consider that a formidable accomplishment!
After one year on this beautiful island, I had lost contact with all but one friend back in the land of the Anglophones. Could be that I am not a friend worth having, but I still reckon that you are one helluva good pal to maintain such long distance relationships for two decades!
“What do you see when you turn out the lights?”
can’t tell you.
But I know it’s mine.

Wow! 20 years is a very long time, don’t you miss your family in Canada?
Alone in the dark… I see… my thoughts .

I was raised by grizzlies in the Kananaskis.
They ain’t big emailers, if you catch my drift.
Here you lie
in a lost and lonely part of town
Held in time
In a world of tears you slowly drown
Goin’ home
You just can’t make it all alone

I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree
Or anything quite so grotesque as you, you jugheaded NT$10 freakazoid.

It’s all right. It’s ok.
And you may look the other way.
We can try to understand
The Taipei Times effect on man.
To send a man your poetry,
To sit and rest whilst evacuating pee,
To discuss the politics of Taiwan,
To moan of the bosses latest con,
(Depending on how you say Taiwan… To point out the unfairness of your latest ban)
To take a picture of your meals,
To show some pride in your revolving wheels,
To cuss and moan and waste your day,
These are the actions of a … forumosan.
Well THAT part certainly appears to have been horseshit, anyways.

Alone In The Dark was a good computer game.
Alone in the dark is one of my favourite scenes, if there is indeed silence. Except for the sounds of the wolf spiders…
