Over the past few years (more so during Covid), I’ve had several Visa & Residency-related questions that I needed to confirm with the Immigration office. One thing in common was that almost every time, my request was shot down immediately by someone whose job is apparently to say “No, that’s the way it is, nothing you or we can do” to whatever request until I finally asked someone else who tells me how it could be done, or shares other solutions if my request really wasn’t possible. It really pains me to see how some officers almost seem to take pride in telling foreigners to gtfo while being completely unaware or unwilling to share useful information/new regulation changes that might benefit them.
Anyway, the point I’m trying to make is this: When the officer you’re speaking with seems to be in a rush to say no without trying to check if there are any possible solutions, don’t even bother discussing or arguing with them. Do some more research and call another office. I can’t count the times when I was repeatedly told that nothing could be done, only to find out later that there’s a simple and perfectly legal way to do what I wanted to do through my own research or officers that truly wanted to help.
