Amazing things one can see on and off the roads in Taiwan

As I was waiting in my car at an intersection an hour ago, I looked over at the cement truck next to me. Right there next to my passenger window was the wheel and tire. I noticed it was “slick” looking and igored it for a few seconds (as I’m always seeing slicks in motorsport) but then came the double take…“WOW!”, I grabbed my camera and took a snap for all to marvel at the condition of this guys tire(s)…I’ve seen buses, cars, motorbikes, taxis and trucks with tires close to this condition before, but never so slick/bald.

Anyways, I thought we should start a thread where people can post pics of anything “abnormal” that we encounter on the roads on a daily basis in Taiwan. From strange parking styles, bald tires, busted up cars still driving, strange road signs, unsafe roads or vehicles…basically anything that is totally nuts, unsafe and careless. Must be with pics and no nasty crash pictures…

Here’s my contribution…New Bridgstone “cement truck slicks” !..available in all sizes from A-Wei.

How about this taxi driver I caught sniffing paint from a bag?

Check out some seriously selfish and stupid in my traffic video named “Red Light, Green Light” that I am trying to promote. It’s based all on Taiwan, especially Taipei traffic and the silly people that make it up.

Sorry for the 200mb download, but it has quite a few facts and statements that can’t be read in a more compressed format, due to the blockyness of the words.

Sure he wasn’t just um…eating something?

Looks like a huffer to me.

Amazing, I hope you got his car # or tag #.

that’s terrible, captain stag. i am so glad i live in nice safe clean taipei, where people are friendly, law abiding and totally unselfish on the roads. i am always scared when i have to drive anywhere south of the river…  :runaway:

Jeeze! Ass-bald and it looks like a retread to boot. He’d be asking for a big fine where I’m from. That shot of the taxi dude is amazing. Sure explains a lot considering the way some of them drive.

Look who I saw campaigning at the intersection of Fuxing/Nanjing. It’s Dogman!

he’s a riot that guy… I met him on a street corner in Hualian when he was campaigning for legislator or something suchlike… I stood behind him holding up my map and a newspaper over his shoulder (the way he always does / used to do to TV interviewees) while some locals took our picture… they thought it was hilarious…

He looks like an Asian Jim Carrey.

How har is it to spot a red light?

A winner a local using protective stuff. Look like kevlar on those glowes and must be the number one unusual thing I see here in Taiwan.

Yeah, the bag was alternately expanding/contracting…it was probably yellow touch up paint for his cab :s I was on the bus and didn’t see his tags in time.
