My ARC costs me NT$ 1000 each year. As does my son’s ARC.
Over the years, its more expensive to live in Taiwan… and that’s not even giving me permanent residency.

you definately have a point there, but it seems better with Taiwan since it’s not expected that you suddenly come up with that cash. My wife recieved her packet 3 (essentially the packet that has the Visa Interview info on it)four days ago, and in 2 weeks we are expected to have the $335(plus the new $45 surcharge) for the visa. We are really only given 1 week to come up with 6,000NT to pay for a Medical, since it takes another week to process it. Not knowing about the $335 is definately our fault since we could’ve researched the fees a little more…but it’s just not possible to know the price of the medical exam until they send you the sheet with the acceptable clinics on it. 6,000NT is a lot of money to just suddenly be asked of. But, I do suppose, when looking at it in the long run and in comparison, the American immigration process does seems more reasonable than I initially thought.
