Does anyone no if Terry has closed down American Pie in Chia Yi? It was a good place to buy breakfast. I live in Taipei now and all the people I knew down there are gone. Any help would be great.
Well…funny you mention it, I just ate there a few hours ago. Yes, indeed American Pie is still open. They still have lots of used books and magazines, and that silly bridge in the middle of the restaurant.
The silly bridge is cool. Is the service still slow?
I haven’t ever found the service to be slow…maybe things have improved since you were there…
I cricled Chia Yi for hours looking for this place the last time I was there. Address please.

Just thought I should update this thread.
I recently moved back to Chiayi and was sad to see that the American Pie is no longer open.
It closed last July.

Bye, bye Miss Amer…oh forget it
Showing my age.
I miss their burgers…
There is also The Calgary. If you like pizza go there Wednesday night for the pizza and beer special. A 10" pizza (SANS CORN!) and two large bottles of beer (the brand varies) for 320NT.
I first met Terry in 1993, though I never knew him that well. I left Chiayi in 1999, and only went to his restaurant once or twice. Does anybody know why it closed? What’s the scoop?

Terry doesnt have the time to run his school, a restaraunt, and complete his PHd.
He’s also teaching at a university so the Pie got the chop.
Probably the best bet for Western food in Jiayi is now Golden Eagle 金鷹酒吧餐館 . Here’s the address and hours:
243, CiMing Road; tel: (05) 277-5277; open 11 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 2 am on weekdays, and 11 am through to 2 am
啟明路243號
Very good range of imported beers, too.
Is this information still valid?
My family is going to Jiayi during the weekend for a graduation party for a young relative.
A few recommended places are always nice to have, as not all university graduates have the necessary funds to try out the better places for dinner and party.
Any other recommendations in Jiayi?

The Golden Eagle is now closed for lunch on weekdays, but this wouldn’t be a problem for you. If you’re looking for Western food your choices are VERY limited.

OK, so Golden Eagle for Western Food. What about some semi-upscale places for Chinese or Japanese food?
Any pubs or bars to recommend for me if the company I am with retire early (goes back to the room to watch TV… …)?
