An Asian American Hero Recognized

Man…only until 2000 was this guy recognized…

So?

While I don’t want to belittle this man’s sacrifice for his country, may I remind everyone that decisions of who gets the Medal of Honor can be quite political. I’m not saying that the people who’ve been recognized didn’t dislplay great valor. However, as any soldier who’s faced the music of battle will probably tell you, there are plenty of guys who’ve gotten silver stars who displayed just as much bravery as those recognized with the Medal of Honor. I know nothing of what this Wai guy did, but I have to wonder if he is actually a poshumous tool of political correctness. It doesn’t matter to me, though. I respect any countryman of mine who’s dodged/caught lead while protecting our sovereignty or interests.

I get the feeling we’re supposed to care more because he was Asian-American or something. Or that we’re supposed to be outraged it took so long for him to be recognised, and that it took so long because he was Asian-American.

Personally, I don’t care about that. There are plenty of deserving people, past and present, of all ethnicities, that haven’t been recognised for their achievements, and plenty that have. While I respect what this Wai guy did, I’m a little wary of the motivation for bringing this to our attention. Would you have done the same if he wasn’t of Asian heritage?

Of couse not. Cornelldesi is only interested in telling the world about the horrible injustices that Asian-Americans have gone through.

Did you ever know that Wai’s my hero,
and everything I would like to be?
I can fly higher than an eagle,
for he is the wind beneath my wings.
:boo-hoo:

The circle is neverending. Try and find any thread morondesi has started that didn’t have racial motivations behind it. Asians aren’t getting this, asians aren’t getting that…blah blah blah we deserve more blah blah blah…what? No asian heroes in American cinema? Boycott Hollywood!!! :unamused:

At least he fills the role of “Forumosa Whipping Boy” admirably… :stuck_out_tongue:

considering the fact that the 442nd was the most honored regiment during the war and almost all those soldiers had family who were still locked up in internment camps at that time, i’m not sure why the guy in the article deserves any special recognition.

Because he’s Asian! Duh!

(And in light of recent discussions on the board I would like to add:

 )
