An example for the importance of punctuation

In ancient China, there is a scholar,he got a job to teach the child for a wealthy landlord.but the landlord is of great cheesepring,so he didn’t want to supply good food for the scholor,
so he said:“I won’t pay you if your choose better supply of food”,
the scholar then replied “ok,I can leave you a written pledge,I want money instead of good supply of food”.
that is the first case as mentioned above, but he didn’t puctuate it.the landholder was so pleased to see it,because he understood it as “it’s nothing without chicken or duck meat,it’s nothing without fish ;just some greengrocery will work”,which is the third case.
soon he started his job, when his food, just a plate of greengrocery, was served, the scholar pointed at the dish and said to the landholder in a fury.
“you disobey our rules!”
“no,I did”,the landholder took out the written pledge and smiled,“this is our rule, isn’t it?”
“yes”,the scholar nodded,“definitely true, but now I will punctuate it to help you to understand what it’s meaning!”
then he took his brush pen and punctuated it.
“now, look”,he took the punctuated written pledge to the landholder.that is,right, the second case mentioned above.
it means:“if there’s no chicken, give me duck meat;if there is no fish, give me some else meat;as far as greengrocery,a plate would surely work”
the landholder got so angry, but he can’t say a word about it,because of the rules the had set previouly.

I don’t know whether you have understood my story, but I have tried my best to convey my ideal.

so, it is OK to alter a contract after it has been signed?

no,that’s of course forbidden.
he just punctuated the written pledge in order not to mislead the landlord(that is,to understand it in the author’s way, rathan than the landlord’s way,and of course, the landlord’s understanding also stands.but you know, after that so-called kind alteration, the meaning of the written pledge is confirmed to the second case)

actually, yes. under certain circumstances a contract can be altered or terminated e.g. misrepresentation and contract signed under duress :stuck_out_tongue:

but anyways, lol thats a nice little story voiceofgod
yeah punctuations do play an important role sometimes… i am sure there are similar english stories about the use of punctuations too :stuck_out_tongue:
