An unusual request for advice/info

Hello everyone.

First post, please be gentle.

I’m teaching in Taiwan. I’m very tall and have a good formal education (PhD).

The problem is, I would really like to date a woman who is also very tall and has a good formal education too (Master Degree ->) or is a genius in some kind of way. Incidentally, I’m aware of the rules about personals ads on this board, so don’t worry - I’m going somewhere else with this…

Despite teaching at a university, and despite looking around PCHOME, yahoo personal, yam, match.com, forumosa friends, taiwanfun, ublove, okcupid, and every other legitimate dating site I could see, I have found it very tough to come up with possibilities for romance.

Advice along the lines of “why don’t you just try dating some short-medium friendly girls and see if you like it, and stop worrying about height or qualifications” has been suggested many, many times , but regretably, this isn’t something I have a choice about, it seems - experience has shown me that this is just how I’m wired.

So, my questions:

  1. Are there any ‘tall person clubs’ or ‘tall person dating sites’ in Taiwan? I found an ancient web page associated with some tall person society in Taiwan, and a international tall person dating site with very few people, but not much else.

  2. Are there any ‘ivory tower’ type dating sites/clubs/events in Taiwan, or well known accy haunts around Taipei?

Me: 195cm or 6’4" in real units. (though I’ve noticed this kind of height is almost normal for foreign guys here?)

Them: >185 is what I’m hoping for, but even >=180 seems to be near impossible judging by the dating sites.

For TW girls, that’s pretty tall, especially up north. But they must exist somewhere.

You’re in the wrong country to satisfy a height fetish. I’m 187cm, and have seen one woman taller than myself. But she works at 7-11, so I doubt she has a Master’s.

185 is pretty tall order for any woman, anywhere. In Taiwan, it’s a recipe for loneliness. Or is it a cover for masochism? :wink:

for someone with “a good formal education” you dont seem to have the best logical processing skills now - I assume by the connotation of your post youre looking at ‘local’ women… have you not thought about looking at white girls?

Or if you really must ‘look local’ try korean - try to join a korean club those girls are all taller than here, but your best bet remains

I personally think the girls from the Masai Mara are much taller. Shouldn’t be too difficult to spot in Taiwan. They are the really tall ones and they tend to stand like a crane (one leg bent with its foot on the other leg’s kneecap).

I grew up in a household where both parents had a combination of 7 degrees. Yet, when it came to common sense things such as taking care of the pool, fixing an appliance or car, or cleaning the house, they weren’t too useful in such matters.

Why do you need to find an educated woman? Fall in love with someone naturally and don’t make a list of requirements or you might lose out in finding your actual soulmate. Who knows? You might fall in love with an Asian midget that works in the night market

However, if you remain picky with your requirements, you might want to consider moving to Ethiopia—nice tall Christian girls that are good at sports. :howyoudoin:

Well, I spent the last 3 summers working minimum pay myself in crap jobs during/after my phd so I wouldn’t judge people too quickly…

Anyway, I think we’ve established: tall women definitely do exist in Taiwan. Which takes me back to my question… where are they hiding? Are there any special clubs they might be in? Secret GPS co-ordinates they congregate at? :slight_smile:

Thankyou for the insult, but as it happens I haven’t just been looking at the locals, since I’m well aware there are a lot of beautiful tall non-asians out there. However, I do have a fairly strong preference for Asian women, and I am in a country where I am surrounded by Asian women, so that is where the bulk of my attention is going.

Dating just ‘a tall girl’ would have been easy if I’d wanted it, several times over. But I want to date someone I actually fancy, perverse as that may seem :slight_smile:

Which takes me back to my question… where might they be hiding… where might they meet. Girl’s basketball team is a very good suggestion, but not at my own uni.

That’s useful to know, I had guessed Japanese women might be slightly taller, but I didn’t think of Koreans, since those I’ve met have been rather tiny. Thanks for this.

Go to a crowded event, like the upcoming Lantern Festival activities. Make sure it takes place in an area with a level ground.

Scan the crowd. Look for heads that tower above the others. Those will be the tall ones.

However, this is Taiwan, a land of relatively short people. I’m 6’2", and in 7 years here, I have maybe encountered about 10 locals who are as tall or taller than me. All of them have been men.

Why do you need to find an educated woman?

Dating a stupid woman would annoy me to death in ten seconds flat. Notice, I said ‘or genius in some way’ - she wouldn’t have to be a PhD in rocket science, just really smart. A sharp cookie. A women whose mind is as dazzling as her delightfully tall body.

Besides, past experience. I don’t fancy short girls, I don’t fancy stupid girls. It’s just how I am. I’ve seen thousands, been offered the opportunity of dating a dozen or so, but didn’t fancy them. That’s why I need to find a tall smart girl. Because I don’t fancy the other sorts.

I think you’re failing to understand, that is exactly what I AM trying to do. Natural for me is to go head over heels when you put a smart tall girl in front of me. Put short or stupid girls in front of me, I don’t feel anything whatsoever 99.9 times out of 100.

I appreciate you’re trying to be helpful, but like I said in my original post, I’m not asking for people to tell me how they would go about dating or what they believe romance, soulmates etc should be about, since I’ve had dozens of people whose opinions I trust suggest variations on that theme over the last 3 years,

I’m just looking for ideas to find tall, smart girls, because I know how my brain/hormones are. These aren’t ‘requirements’ in the sense of filling a job position. They’re just very good guidelines in my experience for finding a girl that I’d feel like I’d want to date. Unfortunately, all the girls I’ve found so far have been married.

However, if you remain picky with your requirements, you might want to consider moving to Ethiopia—nice tall Christian girls that are good at sports.

I fear you’re unfortunately continuing to miss the point of my post by a wide mark. I really, really like Taiwan. I have a wonderful job. I love living here. I plan to stay here for a very long time indeed. I don’t want to go to Holland, Ethiopia, or the USA just to pick up chicks. I don’t want to boink my students. I just want to find a tall, educated girl in Taiwan, preferably Asian, and I’d appreciate your help, or anyone else’s help, in doing that :slight_smile:

any suggestions of where she might be hiding? tall clubs, smart chick clubs…

Just at my school. I was a student myself only 12 months ago.

I sense you share my perception that smart women have a certain look that makes them ‘the hotness’ on top of the fact that, well, they’re smart and awesome.

Interesting. I’ve seen twice as many in the last 3 months, and 1 was a girl (though she was almost square-shaped, so not quite ideal). Possibly the youngins getting taller fast. Must be all that basketball.

Are you seriously trying to say that educated women are not just as likely to be stupid as anybody else? Or that uneducated women are stupid? You sure don’t seem to have learned very much. :laughing:
Most of the women I know are educated, some very highly. A handful of the women I know are not silly cows. Granted, some are silly cows with an education, but they’re silly cows nonetheless.
If you seriously think tertiary qualifications are any indication of intellect, you my friend are in for a rude awakening someday.

I don’t believe educated women can’t be silly cows just as much as any other woman.

So, it’s hardly surprising that I’ve not said any of those things you suggest I’ve said, nor have I implied them anywhere, just as I’ve not written or implied a bunch of other things that people have nonetheless projected onto me during this brief discussion. (i.e. that I’ve foolishly picked this country as part of a chick-hunting mission and I should have moved to Ethiopia or Holland instead, that I’m ignoring white women, that I am trying to fall in love ‘un-naturally’, whatever that might imply… etc.)

So I’m afraid I can’t answer your question.

As it happens I too actually find other things attractive besides the basics. Such as, not a complete psycho, capable of surviving on their own for 10 minutes without attention, not looking for cash handouts, not carrying a small dog wrapped in layers of clothes in a handbag at all times. Things like that.

If people could please stop projecting their inner demons and bad experiences and preconceptions about what I am onto me from this post onwards, that would be just peachy.

Honestly, I’m just looking for suggestions of where I might find tall smart girls in Taiwan. If we could perhaps return to that topic… =)

No worries. I’d be the first to admit there’s a lot of pompous tw*ts out there in academia, often with preconceptions such as ‘people who don’t have the qualifications I have must be monkeys, give or take a few bananas, ho ho’.

This isn’t anything like that. I just like smart lasses and I can’t stand dumb ones. I’ve had good experiences with girls that had Mscs, PhDs or whatever in the past, more so than girls that didn’t, I think, but it’s very far from being a black or white issue.
