Ancient hominins (the ancestors)

When w dont want to admit we need to drastically change our lifestyle in order to adapt to a new situation…we go with the Trump meaning of winning.

When we kick ass and do something without ill consequence and better the planet…we go with a more sports competition theme of winning.

I think you are spot on. One should define what winning is before even playing the game haha.

We already know where and who they are. They prefer to be called the Chinese Communist Party, not a corona spike or super bug. Thats just being prejudice.

Yes, thanks to a combination of callousness and carelessness in the developed world, and the stupidity of vaccine-deniers, the virus is still hanging around- that is us choosing not to fight.

Yes, there were defeats early in WII and consequences after- but the Allies won.

In the article on the movie Contagion(2011)in TVtropes, on of the early complaints was that they developed a vaccine in two years, considered a totally unrealistic time-frame. Ahem.
(Sorry for sidetracking the thread, Conversation better carried out in the Corona thread.)

No, that is us showing some humility and acceptance in the face of Nature’s blowback. There are some parallels here with the DDT thread, IMO. Blaming “vaccine deniers” and unspecified “callous” people for something over which humans have no control is this thing here:

I always thought ancient humans were technologically advanced…

One thing that bothered me about that article was that they were made distinct from humans where as a matter of fact neanderthals are also our human ancestors and were just another very closely related species of human.

Who said other human species actually “died out”? Maybe they just got bred into oblivion (meaning we all have little bits of other human species gene in us).

Fact is, the concept of species is fairly new, and before the 1800s I suspect we’d see other human species the same as we see some other race. Meaning for a lot of us we’d discriminate or whatever depending on our trade relationship with them. Essentially we’d treat other human species just like we treat foreigners.

We do have their dna, its well established. The only reason we dont actually (meaningfully) categorize humans into biological things is because of fears of racism as well as we all are hybridizing at a fast pace. See the human separation thread to see how against the idea people tend to be

This is not what the article is talking about. Sheeh.

Was replying to taiwan luthiers not the article

The molar was found by a research student at the Orozmani dig site, dated between 1.77 and 1.84 million years old, in the Caucasus region. It’s one of the earliest signs of hominins outside of Africa.

If this was in Taiwan, they’d be trying to figure out if he died of COVID.

The typical seed coat is extremely hard. It’s designed to keep the seed protected for several months to years. And it’s a right pain to remove (which is sometimes done to subvert the natural germination process). They probably didn’t bother because there are just so many hours in the day, and you want dinner when you’re hungry.

It is a fun theory though!

It would be interesting if it was true. Seems like a stretch though.

here is the original paper:

The strange markings found around the famous Lascaux and Altamira cave paintings have been deciphered. For a long time people have suspected if it’s a rudimentary writing system, but the markings and the paintings are actually a lunar calendar. the calendar shows when to hunt for certain animals and when they reproduce.
