台胞證 and 2024 Taiwan NWHR law change for dual nationals

Yea, I got mine in the standard business days… but I doubt China has any reason to have issue with me.

The former NWOHR I know got his HHR because he was kinda locked out of China because of COVID and for him the Taobaozheng was a way back in for him.

We might need to travel to Taiwan last minute for a funeral and finding information in English is (understandably) difficult.

Someone with a Taiwan passport with household registration but no Taibaozheng. Also no time to apply for a Chinese travel document at the consulate

What is the process like when landing for a 1 night stay. Is it a 24-hour service specifically at Shanghai Pu-Dong airport?
I did read that it can be applied for electronically on a kiosk, do you need to do anything before hand or is it all done on arrival?
How long does it take?

Also for a 2-hour transit only (the return), will this be enough time and/or is a second application needed?

I am confused, why you are asking for TBZ to come to TW? You need to transfer at PVG on different airlines (so entering China)?

I found some numbers you can call for Shanghai pudong airport. Perhaps they can give you direct answers: 上海浦東機場 - 021-68346939、021-12367

This facebook page seems to indicate no to doing anything beforehand, just bring Taiwan ID and photo to the counter.

No idea on counter hours and submitting another one time tbz application for return.

Shanghai PVG doesn’t do direct transfers/layovers. You have to pick up your bags and then check in again. Picking up your bags means going through immigration.

oh gosh, never had one there, so didn’t know. Sorry for my ignorance.

It takes a week to get a taibaozheng.

There may be a way to expedite it for a fee, have to ask the travel agent about it.

For 5000nt you can get it in 12 hours

You need a copy of your household registration document and you must apply before 10:30 am of that day.

@justintaiwan and the person he is not talking about are not in Taiwan. This info is not useful for them.

Like other posters, I am confused. Why don’t you simply NOT go through the PRC? Is the funeral there?

It’s not really about whether they travel through the PRC, it’s Shanghai PVG that’s an issue for layovers.

And the PRC has scale, which makes them often the cheapest.

Not always easy to cough up cash in an emergency.

Melbourne to Taiwan return via China $650/ticket
Not via China $1600+/ticket

Thanks for everyone’s answers btw! Hubby decided to skip the funeral cos we have a few things going on in Aus at the same time
