Looks like Europe started getting OTA update to 2.2 on Sunday on HTC Desire. Anyone here get it without rooting? I tried a forced update and it doesn’t show up. I think my phone is unlocked. I’ll switch to another SIM and try it later.

I will check for updates tomorrow when I’m near a WiFi hotspot.
My wife already set her alarm so I don’t want to take out her SIM and screw it all up so the experiment will have to wait until tomorrow. I’m not sure exactly how it decides who gets it and who doesn’t. I’ll be in Europe in a couple weeks so that might be time for another experiment if I can’t figure out how to get it by then.

I tried with a different SIM, no go. It seems most who got it are in the UK. Probably O2? I wonder how it even knows who’s who, like if I connect via wifi which is the way most people got it since it’s 25MB.
It’s pretty trivial to detect what country even what city an IP is originating from, whether you are connected via cellular radio or wifi.

Right but I wonder how it rolls out the update. If I VPN through a server in London, will I get it even though I’m in TW on FET? hmmm, next experiment… I think it’s smarter than that though, somehow. ESN of the device?
It has been ages and still no update for the Desire. Does anyone here know when it’ll happen?
Don’t mean to bump a dead thread, but apparently the Desire has started updating in Taiwan. It was confirmed by a cousin’s friend here. I will check tomorrow when I’m near a WiFi hotspot.

Yeah, me too. Upgrading takes some time.
Oh, you have to have at least 25mb memory free in order to complete the upgrade.
