Ang Lee to Shoot Film in Kenting

Missed this during all the election halla-balloo. Ang will shoot Life of Pi in Kenting of all places. Interesting little article hoping that this can spur some proper eco-conscious measures in the area.

I would be happy with a sidewalk down the main street, no cars (just shuttle buses), and no jet skis.

Let’s save Kenting before Hollywood arrives

There was a callout recently via Facebook from the local production company handling it for people who want to be extras. I think casting is next month with filming in April and May 2011

Yep, a waiguo carpenter friend of mine in Taichung has been hired to build props, boats and the like, and they’re really cool. The pre-production side of the project has been on the go for some time now.

Where can I get more information about the casting call for extras?

Just curious, which parts of the film were shot there? I finally saw it yesterday, and noticed the references to Taiwan in the credits.

All the boat scenes were shot in the giant tank in Taichung.

The scene where he makes it to land (so called in Mexico) was shot in Kending.

Loved the film by the way, saw it twice.

Can Ang Lee make a movie about Dutch v.s. Spanish in Taiwan?

Well, they already did like a history feature about that, a couple of Latino friends were extras in that one.

Taiwan has so many stories to be told, modern and old.

They could do one of the invading army plundering the country and shooting thousands of people dead and for 70 years hiding the facts.

And no I am not talking about the Japanese.

That would possibly earn him another Oscar and this time he would be thanking beijing instead of taiwan.
