Another missing plane

It happened again from another SE Asian airline.

AirAsia.

(don’t bother with the link mentioned–it’s defunct)

Another part of the world we need to avoid. It does seem as if civilization is in retreat.

Technology is how the human race outsmarts itself. Make the world complicated enough that we can’t run it safely anymore. We’d be better off with camels.

So they ask -in CNN of ourse- is it because now many people who couldn’t pay for airline tickets, now can pay, so we see more crashes? Their logic baffles me., Yes, there are more flights. But as most airlines have lotta cash, the planes are not museum pieces, while not exactly state of the art. maintenance and air control experience is more of an issue, not to say security in a conflict riddled area. If you read about Indonesia’s government current woes -well, same as usual- you’d understand if any loonie blows himself up along with a few hundred more. It helps the cause both ways -government gets to repress more, rebels get publicity. However, it seems it might have been just bad weather. Hopefully they will find them sooner in a smaller search area. Pray these families will have closure.

???

Why does a missing plane mean we need to avoid a part of the world, and what’s it got to do with civilization retreating?

More planes in this part of the world means more chance of air crashes , broadly speaking. Looks likely the plane ran into a storm and was damaged somehow. Airasia seems to operate a large fleet of new airbuses.

Yep, but they left that part of the equation out, blaming more competition among airlines, who can lower prices more -and leaving an unspoken subtext of cutting corners. Not very nice nor responsible.

Horrible tragedy. Let’s hope we find out soon what happened and it can lead to better avoidance.

HOpe its not another tragedy like the MAS 777 disappearance.

Yikes, I just flew back in from Okinawa this morning. I’m a nervous flier; I’m glad I didn’t hear about this before the flight.

And another aviation emergency. Fully laden Virgin Atlantic currently over the UK in hold dumping fuel due to hydraulic issues.
Seems to be starboard side gear though - probably able to land without incident.

Ugh 2014 is such a bad year.

Terrible tragedy . And if it turns out it was pilot error (or dispatch error) it would be another example of how pilots are not very good nowadays. At least many of them are less than competent?

Asiana unable to land without working landing system (basic airmanship says you can land if you can see the runway). This one possibly flying into a huge thunderstorm. CBs are to be avoided, not flown into. Etc.

However, both MAS 777 disasters seemed to be intentional. Not a failure situation.
One was shot down (perhaps by mistake), so not pilot error. Could be said to be dispatch/ATC error in allowing flight over active conflict zone. One was possibly purposely flown off course and ditched in the Southern Seas.

Sadly, it seems debris and bodies have been spotted.

:frowning:

Horrible tragedy. Terrible pain for those who lost loved ones in such a fashion. One small (small small) consolation is that the plane did not end up missing like the MAS 777.

Plane couldn’t reroute in time due to congestion in sky, was not given permission to take requested route to avoid thunderstorm. No mystery here folks.

No mystery? Does this not raise further questions?

Moreover, it took them well over two hours to start searching for the plane… Bit faster than before, though, but technical controls are really not the speediest.

And before we start saying the West is better in tracking planes, only the US is paranoid enough to request emergency status within minutes if a plane disappears/loses contact. And still have incidents like the sleeping iPad pilots.

They just found the black boxes. Last weekend, they dug out the tail section, AirAsia clearly visible. Really sad for the families.
