Another Truce? Sadr must really be pooched

BAGHDAD, Iraq

success in Iraq??
like in Afghanistan?

Robi:

You are confusing achieving perfection with success. This is a media message that is hammered home. Nothing is every perfect and so we are always wrong.

The media said the war would be the graveyard of our “empire” yet we have 20,000 troops in Afghanistan including NATO and we the country is 100% out of the hands of Taliban rule. Is it still active? Yes, but where does it rule any of the country? Are there warlords? Yes, but are they fighting or mostly quiet?

Ditto for Iraq. We have heard all the gloom and doom and yet Iraq continues to stumble ahead. Every time the media raises a bar, Afghanistan and Iraq pass the hurdle so it merely raises it yet again. Why isn’t the standard of living in Afghanistan and Iraq not as high as in Scandinavia? Clearly, the Americans have failed to deliver on their promises. Yeah right. Bullshit.

I like a small mushroom and sausage. I’ve tried the four topping pizza, but it seems too filling. Two is just about right for me.

Fred, you are assuming of course that it is Al Sadr that is asking for the truce, perhaps it is not them pushing for it.

BTW, the Iraq situation is anything but a success. Dont confuse words of optimism for success.

Al Sadr has either asked for or “magnanimously accepted” a truce whenever he has been weakened and is on the run. I will assume that in this present set of circumstances, the formula is the same. I appreciate your happiness that we are winning the war. It is nice to know that everyone on this forum has the best interests of the Iraqi people in mind. haha

Shame everyone does not include you then Fred, we at least are not so keen to push only our governments involvement in things rather than the benefit to the people first.

Fred, pity you missed the barb in last post, but then again was asking to much for a republican to pick up eh

I’d like to believe that I am above getting involved in petty personal attacks you nasty-assed cheap piece of shit, er whoops, failed again! I will duly note my lapse and humbly beg forgiveness! :smiling_imp:

Fred, tsk tsk tsk, naughty boy, now go stand in the corner. :astonished:

No i am not confusing success with perfection. But looks like you are confusing Kabul with Afghanistan.

Where is the Taliban in control of anything in Afghanistan? Where are the al Qaeda training camps in Afghanistan? We came not to rebuild (though this would be nice) but to deny the territory to the enemy.

In Iraq, our stated goals were to ensure that Saddam was removed from power and that there was no threat of wmds. Both of these have been satifactorily accomplished. We are staying in Iraq to help. That is an added bonus to them. We could have just said mission accomplilshed. Good luck with setting up a new government but we realized that Iraq is too important for that.

After all, we can only do so much with these countries. How are German efforts in Bosnia and Kosovo going? After all, your country must bear some of the greatest responsibility for lighting that fire when Kohl recognized Slovenia and Croatia as independent in a unilateral cowboy move (haha) against the express wishes of the US, UK and French governments. Just thought you should know.

I don’t see the connection to Sadr or Iraq but as you always like to talk about Germany or France:
Not my country, i don’t own Germany, just some parts of it.
And thank you for teaching me, otherwise i would have never known.

The Taliban are back in Afghanistan, maybe the US mayhem was not as good as you thought.

What part of Afghanistan does the Taliban rule. Elections are going ahead now in Afghanistan. 3.5 million refugees have returned. Not bad work for three years. The UN has been involved with Afghan refugees since 1979. So from 1979 to 2001, what did the UN or the rest of the “concerned” world accomplish? What have we accomplished in 3 years? Ah, therein lies the very big crux. America has done more and been vastly more successful than all the rest of the world and all the humanitarian agencies put together. What will these “workers” do now? They will be out of jobs and with that, no UN driver, car, accommodation or US$80,000 per year salary package. Oh dear. Oh dear. Get a real job? Guess they will have to. haha

The same numbers and mistakes all the time.
But congratulations for all YOU have accomplished in three years. Rule over parts of Kabul, not bad. The rest of the county is run by the same people who where in power before the US mayhem.

Don’t worry about those “workers” they are all needed as security guards in Iraq. The salary is not too bad and your life is covered by a nice insurance.

Fine hold us to delivering perfection but then what have you and your country done for Afghanistan or anyone else recently? And what makes you think these minimal efforts should be rewarded with a permanent seat on the US security council.

Nobody wants a seat in the US security council. Does that exist??? I guess thats for members only.

Sorry but when you are American, the whole world belongs to you so I made a mistake and typed US instead of UN. Anyway, that is the reality. Get used to it. haha

Looks like we live in different worlds.

hey maybe i should become American, than the world would belong to me
nice idea
thank you fred

Once again, the US does the lion’s share of the work and pushes for real change while the UN is deadlocked because of political “interests” read: corrupt deals and the world sits around bitching about ink on fingers in Afghanistan while ignoring the return of 3.5 million refugees and a first-ever election courtesy of the US government.
