You take that BACK about Annette! She’s LOVELY! And smart. She went to Harvard, you know!
She’s lovely alright. And she must have learned about Hello Kitty Diplomacy at Harvard. Actually, I do respect her (really; I’m not kidding) and mentioned so in the book. She’s now the VP of a country whose previous government came within a hair of shooting her. And she survived an assassination attempt and (was it one or two?) bout(s) with cancer. She’s certainly a survivor. And as I also mentioned; she may make little sense when she speaks, but at least she’s allowed to speak.
She does have a certain sex appeal, too. I think it’s all the gold, jade, and tight leopard skin shirts that do it for me. I wonder if she’s interested in Western men. I wonder if she likes to watch ice-hockey…
She certainly got the raw end of the shooting; the knee is a terrible place to get shot, whereas Chen just got a little stomach grazing. I’ll be she brings this up at meetings all the time: “Oh, well, YOU can talk about your little boo-boo; I got shot in the KNEE, dammit!”
Which I always thought was kind of strange, too. Normally you’d think getting shot in the knee would fuck you right up. Months of crutches, physio, surgery, etc. Yet she seemed to be up and about in no time at all. Doesn’t even have a limp. Is that LUCKY, or what?

Some might say “luck”; others might say the hand of God my friend. The hand of God keeping her safe - she has obviously been put on this good earth to accomplish great things.
It was a handmade gun remember, not a .357 Magnum.

Oh come on! Tony Chen asked her to marry him.
Back in the 1970s the KMT/government, whose resources were surprisingly comprehensive, sent its undercover lesbian babe squad to attempt to seduce her. It didn’t work.
OK, so maybe they didn’t really call it the undercover lesbian babe squad – though one can hope. But that reportedly really did happen.
Actually, what first gave the secret police misgivings about Annette Lu (呂秀蓮) wasn’t her political activities. While working for the government as a young legal adviser, she started publishing essays advocating women’s rights. She asked Taiwanese women to take off their high-heels and walk out of the kitchen. The women’s movement, which she single-handedly introduced into Taiwan in the mid-1970s, was seen as a social threat by secret police. In the interest of national security, a team of investigators were sent to watch her, and a couple of beautiful young women were instructed to seduce her. Proving her to be lesbian, they reasoned, would rob her of her credibility.
It was a tactic that failed.
How many Taiwanese women ever wore high heels in the kitchen? They wore and wear tuoshie.
Lesbian Babe Squad has a nice ring to it, though.
Well, technically, a stomach wound is no laughing matter either. But, as was pointed out, this was a home-made gun, so the bullets managed to penetrate without doing much damage I guess. That’s the most impressive evidence that Chen didn’t stage the shooting, IMHO; Annette would have kicked his ass down the steps of the presidential office if she found out he’d done any such thing.
Heh heh heh…well they don’t go it right here now do they? Knee-capping is an art it is. Done right, on sticks for 6 months and a limp for life. But not here…heh heh heh.
Yep…those ‘bullets’ made what could be referred to as a surgical incision on A-Bians belly. So precise that its didn’t even hinder him from doing a bit of hands-over-the-heads ‘Victory Dance’ a la’ Rocky on his way into the Emergency Room. …![]()
“Hand of God”… :roflmao: :roflmao:
How do you suppose the local populace and media would react to news that Lu had been “enjoying the company” (num num num) of some foreign guy? Would it be like Sarkozy and what’s-her-name? Or that romantic movie “the American President”? Could it help her launch a political come-back? Or would it be like everything in history happening twice–the second time as farce?
She could probably use a strong shoulder to cry on–or dig those claws into–right about now.
