An abandoned dog, Grace, is looking for a flight to Vancouver. We found a stunning home for her in lake Shawnigan, with a family with 2 kids, a cat, dog and an acre of land! They are very excited and will come to pick her up at the airport.
We will pay for the crate, do all the paperwork, and go to the airport with you (here in Taipei) so youre not bugged with transporting her.
Any time will be of great help…if we dont get anyone sooner end of October is fine too:) I already made NT$1000 from a donation box at Grandma Nittis.
Yay yay yay…!!!
My friend is going to Vancouver on September 13 but she’s flying Oasis from Hong Kong and doesn’t know if Dragon air can transfer the luggage. One girl said that Mandarin Air did but not sure about Dragon. If you can find out that they do, she will totally take her. She’s also going to Victoria the same day but has a long lay over in Vancouver.
I got more details from my friend. She is flying from Kaohsiung, not Taipei, to Hong Kong with Dragon air. Then changes airlines from Hong Kong to Vancouver with Oasis (3 hour stopover). Then from Vancouver to Victoria with Pacific Coastal.
I know that there is a lot of paperwork involved to get an animal in and out of Hong Kong. This is what I just read on travelcentre.iata.org/index.php? … ionCode=HK under Pets: In case transhipment is involved (i.e. change of aircraft in Hong Kong) a transit permit is required, and the animal must be sent as manifested cargo.
I’ll keep looking here in Kaohsiung.
Thank you so much…I still haven’t heard back from the interested family…luckily Totallytika(the woman fostering her) doesn’t mind keeping her until she finds a home:)
If there is another way for the dog to fly i.e. not via Hong Kong to change of vessel I think it would be easier for everyone. But if this is the only way let me know and I’ll give you the names of some pet shippers in Hong Kong that will do the hand over for you. Their basic flat fee handling service is 273GBP. This is quite expensive considering what they do is all in the same building just on different floors, I did it for a dog last year and it took about 15 mins.
The special transshipment permit is quite easy to obtain, but you do need a bankers draft from a bank in TW that also operates in HK and it takes about 2 weeks to get Special permit back. I’m helping to arrange to send a dog TW-HK with Cathay then HK-LHR with BA on separate AWB no.s. The HK bit is a pain in the ass. Oh, and the dog, for BA don’t know about other airlines, has to be in the HACTL terminal at least 8 hrs before departure.
Only for the brave/those without a life and plenty of hours to waste doing paperwrork and money to burn is a transshipment in HK
She has her vaccination shot, no chip yet. When we find someone she needs to be checked out in the week before the person flies…But I think for now we need to concentrate on her illness. It may be a tumor because her eyes are moving around, rolling back in her head and her 2nd eyelid closes involuntarily.
The reason I’m asking is because we will fly to the Netherlands in 3 weeks time and it’s not impossible to find a blind dog a home there even at short notice. However, she would have to have her rabies shot today in that case, as it needs to be administered at least 3 weeks before the flight. It doesn’t sound like she’s fit for a vaccin at present or for a flight…
that would have been sweet…but yes, first we need to find out what is causing this. I would hate to send her to a new home only to find that it is a serious life-threatening problem.
thanks for thinking bout her though! Man, this kitten Im feeding is NOISY!!! How do you guys handle it?
Seriously though, they cry at the top of their little lungs when the bottle comes out. I then feed each multiple times, until they are not interested anymore. Normally, that amount of milk coincides with what they should have. Then there’s no more crying. Maybe a little playing and then straight back to :snore: When they’re small, crying means feeding time! If that and a good patting doesn’t cure it, or the kitten is not interested in food, it may be time to go see the doctor.
Here are a few things you can try to find the solution to the ‘noisy’ kitten before you go to the vet:
-Try “burping” after nursing.
-Help stimulate its elimination by rubbing a warm, damp, rough washcloth or dampened paper towel around the anus and genital area.
-Rub the warm cloth over its belly, too as this could help relieve any gas the kitten may have.
-Check its temperature. A high temperature in a little kitten can cause it to meow alot.
-Check its ears. They could be plugged or maybe have earmites. If kitty has itchy ears, she’ll meow.
Make sure the kitten is warm before feeding. Feeding formula to a cold kitten can cause serious digestive problems. And remember that over feeding can lead to pneumonia if milk is inhaled into the lungs rather then swallowed to the stomach. It is much safer to feed smaller amounts more frequently than larger amounts less frequently.
Sometimes kittens/ cats are just very vocal and there is nothing you can do . Just don’t encourage it.
