We are going to Bali airport (then heading directly as far east as we can, planning on flores area).
But after calling various agents seems the cheapest after taxes is NT$14,000 return with a shitty transfer in HK. Anyone else seen anything better?
By better, I of course mean cheaper and/or direct.

My GF books internal Indonesia flights online with Garuda or LionAir (Lion Air has zero service, not even a glass of water, new planes with even newer pilots, but is often half the price of Garuda).
They have websites with good fares (cheaper usually then going to their offices) per my GF.
And yes as mentioned they just restarted TPE service from JKT. So a tie in to another INDO destination with them could work out cheaper?

ok i think i asked the wrong question. for July, is $14k a lot or normal? I was hoping to get something under 10, and am fast realizing that may well be a pipe dream.
Good luck with getting anything under 10K, not without a few stops and long layovers. A couple of weeks ago, we booked up with Lion Travel and got a flight with Philippine Airlines, short layover in Manila for 11500NT in mid July. That was by far the cheapest flight we found.
FYI, tickets are up quite a bit these days. I got a bargain going over to Jakarta (via Taipei) from San Francisco in March. Now the same ticket with EVA is around US$1,800 , where i got it for US$1,120.
And in '97 when i flew Singapore Airlines to JKT from TPE, via SIN on their cheapest ticket then was still about NT$13,500.
So if u are getting NT$14,000 now round trip? That’s pretty doggone good.
You could try Air Asia to see if its cheaper. And Id also try Tiger Air via SIN (Air Asia via Kuala Lumpur of course).
And Garuda may be having a special on their newly reinstated flight TPE-JKT vis a vis.
Consider going to Singapore first. Flights one way on tiger or jetstar are running less than NT$4000.

there was another deal direct for 17k and 2 nights hotel in bali. but i really am not so into staying in bali that long.
anyone know the legality of foreigners renting cars/motorcycles there?
