Apartment living with two cats?

Hi everyone!

Because you’ve all been lovely and helpful with my questions so far, I have another one to throw at you.

I’ll be coming to Taiwan for at least a year to study. I’m bringing my two cats with me. Yes, it’s a pain in the mf* ass, but for me, they’re really a deal breaker. If I can’t bring them with me, I don’t go to Taiwan. (insert crazy cat lady warning here)

But I digress. I figured out all the hoops to immigrating them, but my question is: are there any apartments to LIVE with them in in Taipei? I’ll be going to NTU, so I’m looking in the Da’an area. My budget is about $20,000 ntu/month including utilities. I don’t have a preference of living by myself or with roommates, as long as it’s a clean apartment in safe area.

But when I look for apartments online, I don’t see anybody mention ANYTHING about pets, whether they’re allowed or not. What’s been your experience? Any advice into this matter?

Thank you!

Tay

I live in a 13th floor apartment and have three cats. A few friends of mine live with two, three and four. Generally not a problem. There are the occasional places that don’t allow pets, but they are in the minority. :2cents:

I know many people that have cats in their apartments including myself. Just prepare to lose part of your security deposit (2 months rent) if they damage anything. Most places come furnished and if your cats like to scratch (the sofa) then you might be buying a new one. But it shouldn’t be a problem.

I’ve seen people who brought cats from the US to Taiwan having to leave their cats in quarantine at the airport for up to two weeks before their cats can rejoin them. The cats were well taken care of though. Just a heads up in case you are unaware of that possibility.

In the most popular housing in Taiwan, 591.tw, they do list which apartments allow pets and which not. This is a real deal breaker. Most apartments that allow pets are older. Rarely nice or new.

I think if possible on a 20k budget and with pets it might be better to consider living outside of Daan proper. Daan is one of the most upscale, expensive areas.
