Usual stealin’ our wimmin… takin’ our jobs… clap-trap non-story… today’s issue page 9. They managed to ensure a couple of pictures of foreigners at Kending were included in the annual “drug bust” report, too, just for good measure. Because as the CCP helfully pointed out in the 80s, only foreigners take drugs or have AIDS.

Front page story is all about how wonderfully non-chauvinist Taiwanese men are compared to those cultural troglodytes in Hong Kong and China. Must have been a helluva slow news day. What about all the usual weekend murderings, child rapings and drunk-driving that make the Monday issue such a good read? Guess they want to expand their Bored-Tai-Tai reader base…?

Now remember kids, stay away from those nasty foreigners! And don’t marry a Vietnamese woman or you’ll have deformed kids!

I’ll have to pick up the HK Apple and see how the Taiwanese blokes fair on its pages. I sincerely hope the article switches Taiwanese for HK blokes. :laughing:

On the one hand, sure I can see the humor in this. And I also realize that kind of shit is the stock in trade of Apple/Next and I am guilty of generalizations too (my stock position is that "all, all, Taiwanese legislators are scumbag theives–but there are actually some rare exceptions to that).

But having said all that, what we foreigners who are not interested (only) in sex ought to do is file a class action slander suit and try and get Apple/Next to cough up some tidy amount of damages. We really do need a Foreigners Legal Defense League but I am too lazy to do anything about it.

I have no interest in taking on the mission either, Brian, with Taiwan’s nutty atmosphere concerning defamation cases and its wacky court decisions. Consider Annette Lu’s case against the Journalist magazine, for claiming that Lu was spreading false rumors of the President’s extramarital affair. While Taiwan’s courts found the magazine not guilty, they still ordered it to publish public apologies. Wtf??? I thought they said not guilty. :loco:

Plus, in this case it might be difficult proving the story contained false statements. :wink:

Rough translation:

The article focuses on a “foreigner mankiller,” Eva, who likes to sleep with bignoses. Among other generalizations, she says that we go to pubs for the sole purpose of getting laid, are better at foreplay, but that one we get it inside, it’s just like having any old bird in you (we’re not as “heroic” as the fellows in the porn flicks). She does give us marks for being sweet and gentlemanly in bed.

Commentary:

This shit is irritating, but it feeds the pitifully diminutive brains of only those who have a penchant for believing stereotypes (i.e. those who form their opinions of bignoses based on movies and whatever society happens to think at the time). Thank God many of the local folks I know recognize this newspaper for what it is.

Oh, and I doubt that Eva exists in the form she is presented in. Don’t blame her, blame this shameful newspaper and the people who buy it (except for hexuan, who is only performing his civic duty by monitoring the situation for us).
