Before AWOL and Stu and other Apple cult members get on my case… Yes, I did a search and I couldn’t find the answer.
So, please have mercy on this simple soul and tell her how to do the following:
I want to put Stu’s podcast interview on my nano
(cursed is the day that I bought the wretched thing!)
I’m at work.
I have downloaded the file.
I have the USB cord.
I have XP and it recognizes the iPod as an external memory drive
(thank god for small mercies, eh!)
I can’t (or won’t) download iTunes at work.
I have 1 hour to do it, or I will go the whole weekend without having heard the famed interview.
If it’s recognised as an external drive, just copy the file onto that drive. You’ll have to ask an expert how to play it from there, there was someone who know about repeat functions and stuff, you can ask them
I can download it and listen to it from my PSP, no need to copy it. And it does video and porn too :raspberry:
You wouldn’t understand it anyway, he talks some gibberish about “spoirn”
What’s the difference between a podcast and a mp3 file anyway ?
Listen to it on your computer before you leave work.
That’s what I did, it’s just a .mp3 file
And because of the way the iPod organises files, you can’t just copy/paste it and expect it to show up in the library. It will be on your iPod, but you can’t access it thru the iPod interface.
P.S. That particular podcast is mp3 format, nothing more, nothing less.

Here’s how to do it:
Copy the .mp3 onto the iPod via USB. You won’t be able to play it.
When you get home, copy the .mp3 off the iPod via USB into your iTunes.
Sync your iPod with iTunes - which will then copy the .mp3 back onto the iPod in a way that allows you to play it.
Simple? It’s the Apple experience
I doubt you’ll understand the thing anyone - the guy’s got this amazingly strong Irish accent which makes it hard to understand
I don’t have the time to explain, but if you activate “view hidden files and folders” in Windows, you can access the music folders in the iPod, and you can paste the song there. However, it will NOT show up or be accessible (as I mentioned before).
This is because the [sarcasm]nice[/sarcasm] people at Apple do the following:
They rename all the songs to something completely unrecognisable
They randomly distribute said songs to 50 (yes… FIFTY) different folders, so they’re almost impossible to find
They create a library database file, which cross-references all the songs’ real names and their new names and locations (you know, kinda like the NOC list they try to steal in Mission Impossible).
Your iPod reads THIS file to tell you what songs are on your iPod.
Unless you can hack that library file, you’re shit out of luck. (I’ve tried and failed).

david… you ARE kidding me, aren’t you? This is sarcasm, right?
If yes, ha ha ha… real funny
If no, please read my original post. (I DON’T want to use iTunes. I CAN’T use iTunes. That’s the whole POINT)
Stu is in therapy right now for low self-esteem due to lack of ethnic identity due to loss of accent. Please refer from jokes of such nature in the future. Friends and family of Stu thank you.

Yeah. That’s what I always end up doing, lol.
Believe me, that’s NOT my Irish accent you’re hearing. It’s embarrassingly Americanised.

[no sarcasm]I understand this explanation perfectly[/no sarcasm]
Thank you, Stu for taking the time and effort
Does anyone want to buy my nano? Black. 4G.
In fact, I’ll trade it for Barter Dollars or some service or some better mp3 player or something. Anything.

Oh. Sorry - I thought you couldn’t use iTunes at work.
The usual complaint about iPods is that you can only sync it with iTunes on a single computer (so if you sync it at home, you can’t use iTunes at work). Believe it or not, the solution I’ve described above is the only way I know around that problem.
If you don’t want to use iTunes at all, then I can’t help you …

I have no money (see killer, hardass bosses comment elsewhere) but vacuum well, make a very nice bowl of pasta, and, uhm, what else…? Massage! I give a great back massage. Rollerblade! I can teach anyone who to rollerblade! Great for general fitness.
Alternatively, you may want to try Anapod instead of iTunes. I haven’t tried it, but who knows, it may do the trick for you. Much as I love my iPod Photo, the lacks are glaring. Where’s the zoom? My sweetie has an iRiver, complete with a microphone for recording, and a radio tuner; why are these add-ons for iPod? grrr
Quite frankly until all of these fascists (MS, Apple, Sony, etc.) get rid of their pathetic DRM solutions and allow me to use content that I have paid for how I like then they can all go swivel as far as I am concerned!
At last the French actually do something good for the rest of us
i remember i never used itunes with the 2g ipod i had. i used ephpod instead. it is way better than itunes if you want an easy app to upload files to your ipod…
Did you just call me a bimbo?! I think you did. Gee, thanks (Only the chief is allowed to do that!)
I know I joke about these things, but if you don’t mind being serious for a moment and tell me what would you do if you were me. I have already found several situations in which I couldn’t use the iPod as freely as I would like to. In those same situations, my old, simple MP3-player/USB-stick would have been much better.
Put your big book on Apple doctrine aside for a moment and give me your honest opinion.
And you just might get yourself out of trouble for that highly sexist remark
