It’s overpriced and pretty much redundant at this point. Give it a couple of years, and it might prove itself not a gimmick. The watch doesn’t do anything the phone can’t do, after all. Who wears watches nowadays, besides the hipsters and people who have to attend to a social event, like a wedding, and use the watch as a fashion accessory?
It’s pretty much useless, unless you want it for the haptic feedback when you receive calls and you can’t hear the phone. Then again, pay what it costs just to have a remotedly activated vibrator in your wrist it’s a little bit too much.
No way I’m getting a smartwatch at least until 5 years from now, and if they prove to be really useful. Smart glasses, on the other hand…
Two (three?) years ago I bought a mac book air to my girlfriend as a bd gift. I knew that it was good but also terribly overpriced. And too expensive. But as a gift, it was good, and what the heck, her other laptop was pretty much dead. It’s a one time thing. Not anymore. I prefer to make more “useful” gifts. And Apple is a fuckin’ sect, selling things that people do not really need, for a price that most of them can’t actually afford, and generating an amount of garbage that the Earth can not take. Fuck trendy electronics, I say.
The gadget itself is absurd. A toy that will end up in some drawer full of other shit. More sooner than later.

Both essentially do same things or will when each others apps catch up.
Personally I am with the “its basically useless” camp. Just a toy. But (being a LIbra i tend to look at both sides of the coin) and I think that i can see some usefulness. For example, when ladies have their iphones in their purses , having a watch linked to it can tell them that a text has arrived or a call is coming through. Things that for sure get missed when my wife has her fone in her bag.
And apparently for fat people, there is that app that encourages you to get up, go for a walk , etc. Some folks have claimed to lose 40 pounds in a few months following that. That could be a GOOD reason for ME to get the watch

To get the calls: bluetooth jawbone or similar.
For exercising, you have a variety of fitness bands that serve the same purpose and are much cheaper, with only a basic LED screen, and also bluetooth-connected to your phone.
Watch some Youtube videos on Apple Watch and Android Wear. Some interesting useful things on there.
having worked with Apple, I make it a point never to buy gen1 products… unless you want to be a paying guinea pig. talk to me when gen3 rolls around.
Having used an Android smartwatch for sometime now I’m sold on the concept, and see the potential for even more uses down the road.
I’ve found that having the watch makes me reach for the phone less, which is a good thing. Now I can reply to quick messages, and glance at notifications that don’t require interaction without having to take the phone out. The Apple Watch takes this one step further by letting you answer calls from the watch itself, which is nice.
I could see this used as authentication in the future - walk up to your front door and it should unlock as it sense you. Stuff like that.

Well she’s worn it ONE DAY and realized that it basically doesn’t do shit. LOL. She wants to wear it a day or two more and then decide if she wants to return it. Luckily here in the USA its returnable within 30 days , but there is a charge, like 20pct or something.
Got her a Prius C1 today (lease, two years for 200/month with 1000 drive off, 12k/annum ---- awesome deal really). She CANT return that though.

First went to her brother
Those watches last quite a while but I did need to superglue the crystal and the back to it when they fell off
And in a way I saved money because Apple Watch is itself fashionable so no buying a bunch of watches for certain outfits it’s almost like a Rolex.
Wear on all occasions And a lot cheaper and more useful

Wife got the Six and wanted to buy me one for my bday two years ago I said just get the SE for me that will be good enough for me
Think the Six was 599 at the time and the SE was 399
But months later both dropped by 100
Them I lost mine so I replaced it with a smaller
5 which was at give away price of 199 when the SE went to 299
But I got one at Walmart
For 159
Was great but small was good and bad but that watch was solid and I swam with it all the time
But then my carrier got this nice deal get the SE second gen for bout 4 bucks a month for 24 months as long as I get the fone service for 20 a month so I thought cool
And got the 44 mm one and gave away my 5
But yes the larger watch is great but I find this watch is not as waterproof so I don’t swim with it anymore
It seems to act up a bit after
a swim
Should’ve kept the 5 for swimming cuz that was not affected
So I think avoid getting it wet
