Apple Watch?

Loosely connected to this thread but I did mention the blue angels
Well this F22 solo demo was incredible and stole the show

Best fighter in the whole world and Loud AF as well

The F35 afterwards was impressive too but this one is the big daddy

I’m still stuck. I might get it because it’s actually cheaper than the Garmin Venue 3. It’s also lighter which I really value when wearing to sleep.

Have you thought about getting a smart ring instead? Better battery life, not as bulky, the sensors are on a par with Apple, and people your age seem to think they’re less offensive to look at than a smart watch.

For me the deal breaker is that smart rings get scratched up (badly) by the knurl on a barbell. For that reason I prefer the watch, and I don’t mind the looks of the Apple Watch.

Anyway, something to think about. I have no experience with them but the reviewer below says a lot of nice things about Oura Rings.

I took a chance. I’m sick today in bed and watched all these video reviews and apparently it’s the best one yet. I just got the aluminum one, the titanium although cool, I don’t think worth another $200ish just for a different case material.

Am I missing something? Is there not a way for the Apple Watch to continuously show my heart rate without me clicking on the heart rate app to then track. I’d have the heart rate icon on my watch face but I have to click on it to then wait for it to measure.

Nope. AW monitors HR “continuously” by regularly checking in every few minutes, not by always monitoring. Garmin is actually continuously monitoring in background, I think. You can take a little peak under the watch and see the optical HR light turns off.

Now I’m feeling like I should have went with the garmin. But the Apple Watch does feel and look more premium and nicer to me for sure.

I just haven’t found one that felt like checked off all the boxes and I get there might not be such a product. I already turned off all the notifications like messages and emails on the watch as it’s not necessary for me.

I guess I’ll give it a try and if I don’t like it I will just resell it.

There’s an app called Heart Analyzer that can show your “current” heart rate as a notification on the watch face. But not exactly current: it updates every few minutes. You can press on it and force an updated check and number.

It does monitor heart rate continuously during a ‘workout’.

Someone gifted me a new Apple Watch. First, l don’t wear watches, second, now I have to go out and buy a charging adapter, cause the charging cable has the tiny plug and they don’t include any adapter. I dislike Apple so much, bad for the planet, so much waste und things you can live perfectly fine without.

1 - sell / politely give back to return it if you don’t wear watches?
2 - the plug end of the charger cable should be USB c, no? My wife’s aw charger is.

Can’t do, maybe after a while… Receiving gifts can be complicated…

Yes the cable does not fit in the sockets l have and my iPhone 13 has not the charging cheek to cheek capability.

Xiao Mi sell a usb-c charger for 145NT. It’s a bargain and works like a charm with Apple Watch.

I’ve been using it. It’s not the best in terms of fitness and health. Really basic.

The new function to detect sleep apnea that’s FDA approved clearly did not work because apparently I snored last night and I checked the results watch and it says I’m fine :joy:

I don’t really use it for messaging. It’s too hard to try to type on it.

Battery life sucks. It hasn’t been a major issue because it does charge fast but I have to charge it when I shower morning and night to keep it going or it won’t last more than 24hrs.

The only major highlight for me is the watch feels high quality. All the other sports and fitness watches are either plastic or heavy. The Apple Watch comes in variants of material and both metals are light. This makes me want to keep wearing it and wear it on when sleeping.

Do you also subscribe to Apple’s Fitness app?

I don’t but I’m always curious to know the opinions of any who do.

I just started the free subscription today. I’m not sure I’ll use it after looking at it.

I don’t like my wristband. I went to the Apple Store in Taipei 101. Wristbands there cost NT$1,600. Holy moly. The production cost is about NT$50, I would guess. I feel the whole Apple business is a huge rip-off. Shower the people with marketing to get them hooked, then get the money you spend on marketing back by overpricing your products that people don’t really need in their lives.

I am not totally opposed to Apple, but I feel business models like that are not good for the people and the planet.

Having said that, were can I get a non-brand wristband for my watch?

online u got heaps of choices, good thing about apple watch is that everything is standardised.

Momo, pchome, shopee, friday, all of them have stupid amounts of products for apple watch wristbands.

Ive had an apple watch for a couple years now and really didnt pay much attention optimising the features till recently and now im digging it more.

I wear it everyday unless i forget it on its charger which happens at times. On the watch face i use GMT face so its got the time locally and the time showing of one other place of my choosing. And on the face itself on the top right i have the activity app which i use when i bike . I turn it on and it tells me a lot of info about the temp and how far i rode and elevation gain/descent and how hard was the workout. And I can set parameters like average speed (tells me if i am over or under) and cadence (same) etc. The feature i use is my targetted heart rate. I set it to warn me to speed things up if i go below 90bpm and to slow down if i exceed 140bpm. Which i believe is the max level i should get to on a regular basis. So I think this is a main feature i use. And I have on the top left a timer because i need to clock out for lunch on time and back in. The company frowns on having to pay us a lunch hour which is required should we go over the first five hours of work. And they want to write you up if you consistently forget to clock out for lunch on a timely basis. They really dont want to pay you an hour wages cuz you forgot to clock out in time. So the handy timer is handy.
ON the bottom left i am now using the pandora icon so i can access it quickly as i plan to use my headphones now when im at a cafe and the watch as the source of pandora music. On the bottom right i have my apple pay/ transit pay app. ON occasions i use public transport and its nice to be able to access my transport card quickly. Before i set this up. I was always fumbling to find this app as the bus came.

And when i slide up from the watch face i have a few other shortcuts i can select. . CAnt select anything i want from my apps but only a few certain ones. So i selected weather as one. and when you touch the weather icon it gives you current alerts, temp etc. And another widget for easy access is the bus/transport app which tells me which lines are close to me and when their next departure should be. This keeps us from waiting an hour at a bus stop very useful feature.

third one is my current heart rate app which also tells me heart rate range of the day so far as well . And one last one is the reminder of any events for the day app. So all in all finding the apple watch to be indispensible. Way better than the Rolex i dont have.

ps. srolled up and saw i wrote extensively about my apple watch already.
anyone wear one ? whats the latest appraisal?

I do find that using the Nav function severely depletes battery life and same goes for using it to play pandora music. But i think i will try using this feature anyway and see how much it depletes power. .
p.s. started with something like 45pct an hour ago and after playing only one hour down to 17pct..OH OH> not good. WEll hey good nuff for a bike ride to cafe and using it at the cafe, then coming home and putting it on a charger again i suppose.. That will fill its purpose. And of course I can just bring my cellphone and use the Klipsch with the phone. Which actually produces better results then using the watch to play pandora. But then the point of getting a watch phone is so i dont have to carry my phone with me on bike rides.
And im actually likig the different character expression of music vis a vis the cellphone. They dont sound the same and that is actually a good thing.

When I get home i plug my watch in to charge it because yes it wont go 24 hours but it will last the whole day usually. And since my iphone 12 is old and the battery is not at its best anymore very often the phone will die before my work day is over but i have my watch phone as a back up for the last work hour of the day or so. And when i get in the car to drive home thast when i charge up the cell again.

Messaging? You dont type, you speak your message cuz typing is a bitch fest on such a small watch face.

not a doc but snoring alone is not sleep apnea . Sleep apnea is when you stop breathing for a second or two !
