I was at MOFA the other day and they told me you need to make NT$571,000 in your final year of residence to qualify for an APRC.
My understanding is that this NT$571,000 must be earned during the tax year (January to December) not any other dates that constitute a full year (July to June, for example).
OK, so here is my question.
When can I apply for my APRC?
I will fulfill my time requirement in August 2021.
I will probably fulfill the salary requirement by the end of September 2021.
Having earned NT$571,000 by September 30th, can I then apply for my APRC on October 1st?
Alternately, do I need to complete the year, then apply on January 1st?
Alternately, something else?
It was my impression that it is your income for the tax year prior to when you apply. So, if your 5 years are completed as of August 2021, as long as the income requirement was met in 2020, you should be fine.
It’s whatever your most recent tax statement says. If you filed taxes for last year already then simply take that certificate in when you are ready to apply.
You will need your most recent official tax statement showing that you exceeded the income threshold for the year immediately preceding your application.
For 2020, you say that you’ll not be able exceed the income requirements, so you’ll have to use your 2021 income.
Although you believe that you will meet the income requirements by September 2021, the year isn’t over yet and official tax documents won’t be ready until tax filing time around May 31, 2022. In fact, your employer won’t report your full income earned for 2021 to the tax authority until after December 31, 2021.
So, file your taxes as soon as your employer provides you with your income/earning statements for 2021, then apply for the APRC in April or May 2022.
This is what I had to do back in the day. In fact, a long time ago, you had to meet the minimum financial requirements for EVERY SINGLE YEAR of your qualifying period in order to qualify for the APRC. For work permit applicants, it was 7 years in a row of exceeding 2x the basic wage. For JFRV applicants it was 5 years in a row of exceeding 2x the basic wage.
Now, it’s so simple just to meet the income requirements by merely using the last year of your eligibility period.
I see a lot of information on the web about the salary proof needed to acquire an APRC - how about after you get the APRC? Is there any kind of salary requirement to keep it? Or just staying in Taiwan for at least 183 days is enough?
