I should know this but I don’t. My ARC is expiring during Chinese New Year. I really don’t want to continue working at my school however they have offered to renew my ARC regardless. I’ve been told this means they own the ARC however I am planning on leaving the island for four weeks or more to Thailand for various reasons. I want advise as to whether the 20 percent tax rate will start again if I get a new ARC or should I just renew it and leave my school?
The 20% witholding rate is based on your time in Taiwan, not how long you have had an ARC. You may need to point this out to your new employer just in case though.
Does that apply if you leave for six months and return llike I did previously? Just wondering as I wasn’t expecting to start on 20 percent again when I arrived in January.
If you were not in Taiwan at least six months in the previous year, you would go back on 20% witholding again.
What should I do if I don’t renew the ARC and don’t find a new school? WHere do I go to get a visitors visa again?
