My employers took my pasport and ARC from me about two weeks ago and said they would sort out extending my ARC which expires 12 June. I went in today and they told me they hadn’t done anything as the woman who deals with it is in China. I had of course pointed out two weeks ago that it was essential to get it done before the 12th. Anyway they called the police and claim that it will be ok if we sort it out monday as the FP station is closed tomorrow.
- Does this monday thing sound likley?
- As I doubt that they will have the relevant documents ready by monday will I have to do a visa run and go through the whole process of getting a resident visa, arc, work permit etc?
- Any other ideas?
- Why did I trust the idiots to sort it out in the first place!?!
i can offer up a resounding “maybe”. was in pretty much the same bind: boss fiddled while rome burned. then she realized the magnitude of her error and that she’d have to pay for a visa run/cover my classes. she is pretty fluid and connected. mobilized her troops, had different teachers flying out on their scooters to different offices. when something else glitched up, she got the foreign affairs office. they gave her an oral extension (!) and everything was made OK on the first business day of the following week.

I don’t even think the chain owner has had the light bulb moment yet. Trying to get the idiot underlings to contact her is almost impossible but her father did try to intervene. Very ‘Tai cur’ attidude from said father who threaned my translator (ie better half) with gangsters for getting arsy with the staff and him. Anyway spoke to a manager at one of the schools and she seems to have her head screwed on. However maybe too late. Still, haven’t spent any time in Hong Kong since I was about 6 months old so maybe a silver lining!
definately. when they screw up andyou are necessitated to go…make a vacation of it. on their dime. you could process at HK in one morning and pick up at noon. why do that? go to PI where processing is one week. go to palawan. you are only doing what you are doing because they are negligent.
The problem has now morphed. They said it was my fault and wanted me to pay half of the costs. I told them to stick it and so we have parted ways. Then went to the cop shop who said that I could have had a months extension if the school had even sent off for a renewal of my work permit (ther only document missing) but as they had not done this then nothing doing.
Plan now is to talk the owner of another school I did a bit of extra work for into become my arc sponsor. Get a letter from him, off to Hong Kong for a new visa and then start pissing in a jar again!
For this to work I guess that my old ARC needs to be canceled. I am hoping that now that it has expired this doesn’t require any input from the old school.
Any info on this aspect would ne appreciated.
