Are 2 US citizens allowed to get married in Taiwan?

If both the bride and groom are US citizens, can they get married in Taiwan?
(the bride is actually dual UK/US citizen)

Both are in Taiwan on working visas.

Thanks!

Check with AIT. I’m certain that they should be able to do it. But call first, as I’m not an AIT personel.

And congrats on finding love. Hope that the best is yet to come.

No… I’m not the groom. The bride is my ex-fiancee. (but we’re still very close friends)

Will have them check with AIT next week… Thanks!

You can do it at a district court. You need ‘certificates of no impediment’ - proof that you haven’t been married before.

Brian

which you can get from ait (in fact a notarized statement that you are not married but local court accepts it.) i really doubt ait has any kind of “justice of the peace” type service, for one thing marriage is administered at state level in us.

Actually, the “certificate of no impediment” is not proof that you haven’t been married before.

It is proof that you are not married now.

That is a small difference, but important.

I assume that Bu Lai En knows this. He probably just typed too fast …
