Are you a prostitute and don't know it?

An interesting sign outside a restaurant in Shanghai:

How could you not know? How will the security guard sort it out?
Too funny!!!

HAHAHA!!!

They’d never let me in.

I can’t open the link. It says
"Forbidden

"

:stuck_out_tongue:

hmmm… why did I think this topic was referring to Taiwan girls…

some people,
if they don’t know already you can’t tell 'em.

What would the guard do, really? Did they give him special prostitute detection training?

It is possible that a prostitute might not know. I spent years thinking I was an English teacher without actually realising the truth that I was just an ESL Whore.

 :bravo: Thanks, TC!

That’s funny!

But the English translation has been done with a bit of poetic licence. It translates directly as something more like:

Zapata’s Mexican Cantina does not welcome prostitutes. If you are a prostitute, please endeavour to restrain yourself from entering this restaurant and garden, and do not loiter at the entrance. If you are unsure about your own identity, please ask our security guards for help – they are very friendly.

Thank you for your cooperation!

What does the last Chinese sentence say? It looks to me like “If you’re unsure of your own status, please go to our security guards – they are extremely friendly”. Which, uh, doesn’t sound quite the same …

Edit: Oh hey look there was another page. Man, I suck at forums.

Maybe the guard has a checklist.

“If you answer ‘yes’ to three or more of the following questions you are a prostitute.”

Or something like that.

:notworthy: :bravo: :notworthy:

I guess the guard would simply proposition the lady who questioned herself. If she answered with a price list, I guess he’d be very friendly and sort her out.

Isn’t Zapata’s owned by Taiwanese? Anyway it’s a great sign and it’s still up there. I hear the place is a total meat market and absolutely chockka with Bobbies of a Wednesday night. So I am er told.

I guess that’s for those people who are like, boy toys, or maybe if you were trading sex for services and not actual money. Then you might be confused and need to have your status clarified by security guards.

I think the “friendly” part is hilarious. I bet they are really friendly in figuring out if someone is a prostitute or not…

“Your hot tea special was pretty good, but your around-the-world was rather lacking. Therefore, I declare you as an amateur or weekend prostitute. Fortunately, we only bar professional ones from our restaurant. Enjoy your taquito, ma’am.”

What if someone is trying very hard to be a prostitute, but has no takers and thus cannot actually join the ranks of working girls? Would they be banned then?

Good point. If, for example, I was a man-whore in training, honing my work skills and not charging for my services, would I fall under the “prostitute” banner? I think I would need to seek clarification.

What if you dress like a prostitute, and everyone thinks you are, and thus you are conflicted and confused about your self image, but are not actually a prostitute?
