Yeah thousands of these ‘manchilds’ on our city streets. Even 30 and 40 something…Just act like complete fucktards with noisy exhausts expensive vehicle or not. Having a noisy vehicle is retarded. They need to grow the fuck up but nobody in Taiwan will say anything to these people. Definitely got worse over the last year or so, it’s like a competition in fuckwittery.
I salute the couple for helping so fast but surprised they drove off after helping.
Bad driving. First time I drove a two stroke dirt bike, I came close to hurting myself on a hill I flew off of at the top. First time I drove my brother’s Barracuda, again just luck I didn’t crash. Special driver’s training
should be required of guys with these race cars and motorcycles. So easy to lose control.
They probably felt they couldn’t do anymore and left
Yeah I’ve been trapped in many a car because they had never used the seatbelts before and the car was decades old. I’m repeatedly told that I shouldn’t use the seatbelt here. In the States, they cracked down hard with their “click it or ticket”. I don’t know anyone in the US that doesn’t wear one.
Edit: also, toddlers crawling around and even sitting on drunk daddy’s lap while he drives. I feel like Taiwan is stuck in the 1950s
I see so many cops direct traffic in Taipei, couldn’t they also record violations at the same time?
They couldn’t save the girl, but at least the passerbys ensured the family can have an open-casket funeral and the body wasn’t burnt to a crisp. Small consolation, but something at least. I hate the sports car drivers here; even more obnoxious than their western counterparts since they act tough but they’re so fucking lame at the same time.
Great to read that people actually helped. From other discussions on forumosa I had the impression that the SOP is to ignore accidents, as long as you’re not involved.
I did the same years ago when I witnessed a serious accident. Me and another lady stopped and called 119 and stayed with the victim and blocked the road until the cops came and then left. The cops seemed to not care about any statements and let us leave. I wanted to get out of there because of all the things I’ve heard about passerby getting blamed somehow. Plus there is cameras everywhere and there is nothing I could do for the guy anyway as the paramedics were there.
I am still saddened by how many people stopped to gawk in the beginning but kept going. But as a driver, if I see a group of people already helping, I’d keep going.
Hmn, we were recently told off by the police before we could even explain what happened to an accident we witnessed.
We witnessed a non-deadly but quite bloody motorbike accident (girl fell by herself and hit front-faced on the pavement and slid for a good 20 meters, ended up “just” being probably pulled out teeth, but it originally seemed worse ) and called 119/112 on along with a couple other passerbys and protected her from traffic. When the ambulance came, we told them what we saw happened to the medics, then the police came just after and told us to go on with our lives without ever hearing from us nor asking a question.
It felt a bit weird to be honest, specially after having stayed there for a good 15 minutes.
I’ve discussed this with a couple of other Western friends and it seemed pretty common for them when driving that they just wouldn’t start the car until everyone is buckled in and if they had that one friend that got upset about having to wear a seat belt they would say have fun walking (I only had to do this once so far). Asking a couple of my local friends they think it’s because people are just in a hurry or lazy…which I guess makes sense.
Look at how many people don’t even bother properly wearing their motorcycle helmet or even have helmets for their kids…safety just isn’t a factor.
My personal fave is people slapping on a helmet but leaving the chin strap undone.
Yup, that’ll DEFINITELY stay in place when you need it.
Guy
Picking up my kids from Kindergarten, I’m amazed at how many parents just let their under 5 year old sit in the front seat. No children’s car seat, no seat belt on, and in the front seat where the airbag can kill a child.
Or they have them in the backseat without strapping them in, still no car seat. The kids just free stand leaning over the seat to visit with mom and dad etc.
I’m…lost for words.
They actually think they can catch the kid in case of an accident…
Recently there was this awful accident where the the kids in passenger seats were expelled…in the middle of one of those 8 lane freeways… Rolled over… Another one where the passengers survived the crash but got out of the car into traffic…also a highway… Amazing kids are so spoiled here that contradictorily the parents and grandparents do not force them to wear seatbelts, especially on intercity highways.
Street racing in Taiwan results in a lifelong driving ban. Your license is removed for life.
I suppose removing these guys one at a time is a bit like shoveling water. More just seems to rush in doesn’t it.
Guy
Maybe in the future cars will be AI controlled and not able to go over the speed limit. Not that I would want that, but probably better in the long term.
Or bad drivers should lose their license and be forced to take public transportation…
There is a difference between a life long driving ban and a 24 year sentence behind bars
On looking at that accident closer the guy couldn’t get out on his side as his car was smashed in on his
side
He managed to get out on the passenger side and to his credit got the girl out of the burning car
Many man childs would’ve just looked
On
I’m amazed some people even had fire extinguishers and put out the fire
I would not have bothered with the car just get the people out and let the car burn it’s a goner anyway
My theory is that because it was a massive side impact the side curtain airbag on the driver side would have deployed and probably saved the driver’s life
The passenger on the other hand may have crashed into the steering wheel or shift lever and that caused
massive head trauma and/or instantly broke her neck
The front airbags may or may not have deployed but if they did would not have helped the unbelted passenger in a massive side shunt like this one
The R8 comes in rear drive or Quattro but even the Quattro is heavily rear biased so stomping on the gas is very likely to cause it to fish tail and a side impact is very likely as what appeared to have happened here
If she had been belted in it’s likely she could have walked away from this accident
Here in the Bay Area the driver can be slapped a 100 dollar ticket if any passenger is not wearing a belt
This responsibility is put on the driver
Most likely they will just drive without a license
