Australia tries to send dying refugee to Taiwan

What do you think of this situation? Do you think this unfortunate person would pass the medical to be allowed entry?

Not sure if I missed it, but is there any mention in the article on why the Australian authorities suggest Taiwan of all places? Is there some general agreement between Australia and Taiwan for medical treatment of refugees?

No mention. Also no comment from Taiwan authorites/government.

Nauru is an ally of Taiwan. So Taiwan probably helps with medical system there.

This is one of the smarter things Australia has done in a while. Keeps the stupid buggers out of Aus, gives them decent medical care, and puts them in a place that’s not party to any absurd UN treaties on refugees.

Taiwan is not a part of the international community and thus did not sign the agreement on refugees. So, they can come to Taiwan and get medical, but they cannot try and then claim asylum. Hence, they get flown out after the hospital visit.
They would be able to do that (claim asylum) if they got medical treatment in Aussieland, and hence down-under doesn’t want to go that path.
