Are you saying you can’t add an avatar?
Maybe your file isn’t the correct size. Acceptable dimensions are given in the CPanel where you hotlink your avatar (you can’t upload your image to F.com).

Thanks Lili of the valley, but this aint my first kick at the cat. I know about things being too big. 
have you tried the old trick of copy/pasting and then deleting the “g” from “jpeg” and then retyping it?
To be as clear as an unmuddied lake, as clear as the azure skies of summer; the title of the thread is copied and pasted from my avatar upload page.
Did you previously have a picture of something horrendously offensive as your avatar, thereby possibly causing admin to block that function? Like, I don’t know, a shot of Funk500 in a frock?

You probably have to first ask admin to click some button to enable your avatar priviledges, which might have been disabled long ago for the reasons Taffy mentions or by accident. After you get that fixed, send me your email address by PM, in case it has changed in the past 5 years, and I’ll see what I can do. I still have ALL the Hello-Kitty-Hell-Week pics, in case people want them. 
Maybe it’s a hangover from your days in the wilderness. Probably needs a caring admin to unswitch some special Toe-switch that was switched during the great Toe-persecution era.
