Avatar problems

xie xie

My avatar does not display… only the weird picture mini icon (triangle, square, circle) that indicates a picture should be there.

Any help here ??

The avatar image needs to have a permanent web address to link to. If not it won’t be able to effectively show it, hence the small blue question mark - meaning a broken link to the image. There are services such as Picassa and Flickr where you could upload and host an image to get a web address to link to. Alternatively you could do an google image search and use a link to some other image, as long as it’a acceptable to do so.

I must admit, it’s not the easiet site to display an avatar, but with a little know how it’s not too much of a bother.

I think I’m there…

I think your avatar may get you into a little trouble …

Yes I think you have got the hang of it. LOL! and such a nice avatar you have chosen for yourself. There was me thinking maybe a cat or some cool cartoon character…

Evidently this forum is a little more stuffy than others I’ve been on… changed as requested.

Thanks for you cooperations.

No problem, sent you a PM about your signature in kind.

It’s a good observation, and probably worthy of a long weekend of introspection and deliberation. We haven’t had a meta-analytic review for at least 4 days, and one or two of our most vociferous roustabouts seem to have sobered up quite early and are out from under their bridges. I suspect one of them can temp this in a heartbeat to get a fully pointless mud slinging festival into full flow.
Whilst it can be stuffy, and prudish, it can also be, well, whatever the opposite of that is. The site is a barrel of inconsistencies cemented into place by human bias and intellectual one-upmanship. But God love her, she is held together by the same madness that threatens to drive her to ruin.

PUT DOWN THE CRACK PIPE!

Ehem , a little help here guys: is my poor Impala too squished? How can I fix the image?

Yes, tis a bit squished.

Should be 150px by 120px for perfect proportions of the lovely Impala.

mmm, better, a bit small, but a lot better. Thank you, Stevie.

You are welcome
150px is the max width for avatars on this forum. IMO it could be a little bigger.

Another question:

How to upload a gif avatar, like Jimmi’s? I use Flickr, and it doesn’t work -it doesn’t move when shown on this site, I mean.

I remember someone explained that it had to be uploaded in Photobucket or something like that.

DD -

try imgur.com …easiest photo site I’ve found.

Drag & drop and it makes mucho links automatico por tu…

Like an image as an avatar you need a unique URL for the gif, this should be a right click away and once it has it’s own browser window - you can copy and paste the URL.

The tricky bit is knowing the size. It’s maximum dimension at either it’s width or height, I just drag a copy to my desktop and use a simple picture editing programme to resize it. I only do this to get the proportions of the pic. Once I have these I just punch the numbers into the relevant boxes.

Hope that makes sense?

I am using the same size you gave me before for my current avatar. Looks OKish? Good enough for government work?

Sigh, I wanted to change my avatar (why-o-why) and now I am stuck with no avatar!

I used flickr before and it was ok (maybe some of you have seen my wet grumpy cat face somewhere around here).
I used flickr again and am getting “The URL you specified is invalid.” I’ve tried normal link, short link, BBC code, HTML code… nothing works. Then I’ve tried imgur… same message… size is 150x218. What’s wrong then?

Here’s the photo: flickr.com/photos/alkithilien/8316892880/

Oh, and I did try to use the same photo as before (flickr as well)… and of course the link is not working anymore :ponder:
