Avatars

I know that I am going to sound like a crusty old bore, but… I have recently noticed that an increasing amount of avatars are not quite appropriate for my work. I often have young folks walking around (even during my breaks, their eyes are everywhere) and peeking over my shoulders when I am browsing the forum. Could the more inappropriate ones be changed? I did not notice the naked hello kitty couple until one of the little ones pointed it out… Now I am in trouble. :unamused:

Thanks.

In trouble for what? For browsing the internet while you’re paid to do some work… :unamused:

This is funny, I never thought of that. I will change my avatar for you, but not quite yet.

Yeah OK… I will change mine too in a day or two. Until then, get back to work slacker! :sunglasses: (oops! I’m at work now…)

Just turnoff all images, and your problem will be solved.

Oh, no, does that mean that the mouse is history?

Or ignore the offending posters, then unignore us at home.

If you use Firefox, you can block ALL avatars like this:
Go to Tools->Options->Web Features->Load Images and check “for the originating web site only”.

If you don’t want to block ALL avatars (only the “offensive” ones), download the adblock extension for Firefox (right-click on the link and choose “Save link as”), then open it (File->Open File-> click on the “Files of type” bar, choose “all files”, and look for the adblock-0.5.2.039-fx.xpi file.) Restart Firefox.
Now, you can right click on any image and choose “Adblock Image”. Problem solved.

Why not stop doing leisure things at work, and stop visiting ADULT websites in a place where there are children around?

Perhaps you would like us to tone down the language, and stop discussing adult topics too?

This is a site for adults. If you don’t want kids to see what adults see then don’t show it to them. Would you leave an adult magazine lying around where kids can read it? Would you ask the editors to refrain from publishing adult content? Have you written to the operators of the porn channels on TV to stop showing things that are not suitable for kids? Or do you simply refrain from watching porn at work? I know which one makes more sense to me.

I’m sorry, but I don’t believe that people here should be asked to change the way they behave in order to not upset people that this site is not intended for. You don’t think the avatars are suitable for kids, then stop visiting the site while at work. Simple. Don’t ask me, or anyone else, to change just to suit you.

And who was the one ranting about smoking in bars?

I was ranting about the lack of options. I’ve never said that people should be compelled to stop smoking.

Would you take your kids into a bar - an ADULT environment - and expect people to stop smoking because it’s bad for the kids who shouldn’t be there?

If an adult has a complaint about something in their environment that’s one issue. Saying that an adult environment is not good for kids is rather stupid. The answer is not to turn the whole world into a kid’s environment. The answer is to keep kids and adults seperate.

Oh, come on. If my son was 2 or 3 years older, I probably wouldn’t dare look at Forumosa’s avatars at home either
He just asked for a favour and got a good advice from Frost and Andre.
Cheer up, Loretta, it’s your big day!

My little girl was watching me surf last night. She’s four. I don’t think she understands most of them. She liked bobepine’s kittys. She also likes Tigerman’s dog. She thinks he’s smiling.

Loretta…That wasn’t meant for you anyways. The bow makes you look…just lovely.

I thought Tigerman’s dog was licking the Kitty, didn’t notice his moving bottom :astonished:

But I also thought this smiley :wanker: was scratching his chin pondering about something.

Notsu - pure as driven snow…

That’s not Tigerman’s dog. That’s the Gumper’s dog.

Tigerman’s dog on Gumper’s avatar. :raspberry:

She’s right. The doggie is smiling.

I remember ac_dropout got teared and feathered a while back for using an “adult” avatar… now we have a titmouse, Brad Pit’s ass, some guy in very tight Speedos and a bunch of “daddy, what is Hello Kitty doing there?”-avatars and the general attitude seems to be “it’s your fault if you’re surfing at your workplace / with kids around”. :astonished:

Personally, I don’t care if this place looks like a mixture of the Empornium forums and some Hello Kitty hentai page. This is an interesting development and I’m looking forward to seeing where it leads (or ends).

Anyhow, thanks for the link to the Firefox adblocker, Andre. Do you know an extension that lets me replace images and not just block them?

Thanks for the awesome solution about the pictures :notworthy: Loretta, sorry I hit such a sensitive spot. I was just asking for a solution, now I have one. I only use the internet at work when I am on break. Since I am at work 55 to 65 hours a week, I pretty much only access the internet when I am at my workplace. I know it sounds Taiwanese, but when I am not at work, I am either sleeping or eating.

About Forumosa only being an ADULT website… I find that sad. The whole adult versus non-adult mentality is one reason why I don’t like living in some western countries. Who is to decide when one person is qualified to be an adult and another not? I was running a consulting firm and was a published author at an early age. After five years of professional work in many countries, I remember going to a western country on business where they would not let me rent a car because I was “too young”. I own a company that is doing business in your country but I cannot rent your crappy third-rate car? Anyway, I won’t go on a rant.
