The Capitol Police told Newsweek via email that 38-year-old Michael Hopkins was arrested for “unlawful possession of ammunition, including one charge for possession of a high-capacity magazine.” In a statement issued by Jo Stiles, Morelle’s chief of staff, the office was informed that a member was arrested by Capitol Police on Monday morning. Morelle’s office is “currently gathering more information regarding the circumstances of the arrest,” Stiles said.
There’s been a lot of talk about this the last few days. This article seems well researched. He references and pushes back on some of the people I’ve heard on it.
Rep. Susan Wild (Pa.), the top Democrat on the House Ethics Committee, was absent from the panel’s meeting last week after being traced as the source of leaks to the press regarding the investigation into former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), sources told The Hill.
Uhm, Joe? Gonna need another pardon on aisle four.
Any leaks from members and staff are a violation of the committee’s rules: Individuals on the panel take an oath swearing they will not disclose unauthorized information.
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will not disclose, to any person or entity outside the Committee on Ethics, any information received in the course of my service with the Committee, except as authorized by the Committee or in accordance with its rules,” the oath reads, according to the panel’s rules.
Wild — who has been the top Democrat on the Ethics Committee since 2022 — is not returning to Congress next year after losing her re-election bid to Republican Ryan Mackenzie.
Lose, leave and burn it down on the way out seems to be the democrats MO these days.
Most telling - or least surprising - is that she’s being subjected to the same vile racist language that Federal, state, and local police were subjected to in Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, Kenosha, etc., during the “mostly peaceful protests” of 2020. She’s been called a whore, a cunt, and they’ve lovingly insisted she be deported. Based on the pattern set in 2020, I imagine threats of bizarre sexual violence are next on the menu.
And it’s even worse because they pretend to occupy the moral high ground. They pretend to be so loving and caring and embracing of diversity, but all of a sudden, when I dare to issue or utter any criticisms of the goddess Kamala Harris, I get ostracized. Me, after having raised tens of millions of dollars for the party.
My donors are pissed.
They raised $2.5 billion across Super PACs in the campaign. It’s my responsibility. It’s my duty of care to ask, “What the hell happened with that money? Why did we spend it? Why did we spend millions of dollars on five star hotels for campaign staffers? Why did we spend $500,000, essentially bribing. Al Sharpton moments before he interviewed Kamala?”
These are legitimate questions, but no. In the cult, you can’t ask questions and leaving the democratic party or even questioning the democratic party is like leaving a cult. It’s terrifying.
Georgia’s ethics commission found that the New Georgia Project and its affiliated action fund raised $4.2 million and spent $3.2 million to support Abrams during the 2018 election cycle when she ran for governor. The groups failed to disclose those partisan contributions in violation of state campaign finance law. Abrams ultimately lost to Republican Brian Kemp, who defeated her again in 2022.
The two entities agreed to pay a $300,000 penalty, the largest fine in the commission’s 38-year history, in two $150,000 installments for 16 instances of illegal activity. The punishment is aimed at the groups, not Abrams and Warnock directly.
The New Georgia Project failed to register as an independent campaign committee and failed to file campaign finance reports of contributions and spending in 2018, showing their support for Abrams and other Democratic candidates.
