Back to the 50s: How low can the Aussie dollar go?

Bad news for billionaires and bogans alike!

A treacherous triumvirate of terrors:

  • A weak Chinese economy
  • American tarrifs
  • Weak Australian export game (crikey)

Are ambushing the beloved penal rock of Oz.

Implications?! :face_with_monocle:

I hope the forum can help answer these pressing questions:

  1. Will China help us from going too far "down under?’

  2. Do Trump tariffs have teeth, or “no worries mate?”

  3. How will a weakening Aussie dollar impact the price of booze and Vegemite? Will Albanese (from Australia) subsidize these national staples??

All I know is the beer and wine I like haven’t increased in price in almost 2 years.

The Australian medias current favourite phrase ‘cost of living crisis’ is just media fear mongering.

Probably will give out free bottles to long-term dole bludgers and double the price for the working class.

Things are fine down under  Me personally, I’ve never earned more money or had more disposable income. And I’m just an average guy, maybe even below average in some aspects.

Cost of living crisis has constantly been on everyone’s lips these past 6 months in the UK.

No one has any money to eat.

The nail salons and hairdressers are packed though. Strange.

More women have clearly turned to hypergamy to keep their steady flow of meals, @BigDave :relieved:

Sounds exactly the same as Aus.

Everyone wasting their $$$ at Coles and Woolies instead of heading to Aldi. A new McDonald’s popping up on every corner.

Though was not music played gentlemen, as the Titanic kissed the icy abyss?

They’re too busy spending it on food, not even a penny left to nibble on

Sad state of an economy, being forced to choose between either looking like barbie, or having more shrimp on the barbie. If it wasn’t for that greedy Albatross, Australians could have both!

Before it’s storied fall, Rome certainly dumped this dilemna on its citizens.

Spent some time back in that part of the world and it was like I was on a different planet . You have an image of relative comfort in your head but then you see that while some , even many people are doing just fine at the same time lots are just eking by and overall it’s a bit grim. Costs went up, things didn’t improve though.

Was pretty shocking to me , have you adjusted yet to the new normal ?

And I had exactly the same reaction, why are there so many Turkish barbers and nail salons and why does everybody have the same haircut.

What brought it back home to me was people sneakily eating chocolate bars in the coffeeshop cos they couldn’t afford the 5 euro cakes. Very 1980s.

I fucked up coming back is the way i feel at the moment. If we hadnt spent so much on visas, we would be thinking hard about flights back i reckon. The kids doing well is the saving grace.

I am thinking that i should be learning a trade. Those guys are doing well. Or a Turkish barber. Always full and tipping is now a thing in the UK.
