My friend and I will leave Taiwan mid-August after a great year on this feng le little island. We’re planning a Farewell to Asia Tour through the Philippines and Vietnam before heading back to North America. We’re flying to Manila, on to Vietnam with a stop-over in Singapore, then to Macau and Hong Kong with a stop-over in Bangkok. We will finally leave Hong Kong on Oasis HK Airlines to fly to Vancouver.
Our itinerary is pretty complicated, pieced together from low-cost carriers like Cebu Pacific, Tiger Airways, and Air Asia. We don’t want to lug around more than one bag each on all of these flights and to all these glorious backpacker destinations. Two bags is such a hassle when you are trying to travel easy, you know? Plus all these airlines have pretty strict baggage weight limits, and we would undoubtedly end up paying extra charges for being over-limit if we tried to take all of our belongings on all of these flights.
Shipping the extra bags home to the U.S. seems cost-prohibitive from the quotes that we’ve gotten (around $600US). We are looking for a way to send the bags from Taipei to Hong Kong before we leave Taiwan and have them held for about a month until we arrive there for our flight home. Any insider information, common experiences, tips, tricks, or ideas you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
