Bali
Blueface,

Apa kebar? Enjoy the Bintang and the excellent satay–and the nasi goreng and the weather.

Have fun in Bali. BTW, did you fly Paradise Air from Taipei to Denpassar?
Air Paradise wasn’t flying the route yet. I flew Thai to Bangkok, spent a few days and nites there and then on to Denpasar. A 1 year open ticket cost me only 15,000NT.

Now after more than a year since the bombing…we got more tourist from all over the world…you may come again to bali…its safe and enjoy it

Looked to me as if kinabatangan is right, we went to Bali a few weeks ago and were the only guests in our hotel which had about 15 villas. It was great for the kids and we had the full attention of the staff, but it still felt a bit eerie. Otherwise the place seemed fine, although I thought that the total lack of airport security (no screening gates for incoming passengers) seemed a bit odd to me after what they’ve experienced.

One tip: our travel agent told us that the (newly introduced) visas are no problem, we could get a visa on arrival (US$ 20,-/person) at the airport: this took us about 3 hours because there was another plane-full of tourists coming in at the same time. So: get your visa here before you go! Also, we were told to prepare passport-pics, but they never asked for them … Xpet.

Looks like some more Taiwanese have gotten dysentery here in Bali. If you are planning to come down, DO NOT come with a taiwanese tour group. They always eat at “Chinese” restaurants and they are the only tourists who get dysentery. That should be a warning. There are too many good restaurants…why spoil it for something “chinese”? :unamused: BTW, I’ve never seen or heard of a Taiwanese drinking “raw” water or hanging out in a warung.

Taiwan on alert over possible new dysentery cases in Bali

TAIPEI (DPA): Taiwan’s health authorities Tuesday reported fresh cases of dysentery found in three Taiwanese tourists who returned from sightseeing trips to the Indonesian resort island of Bali.

The three - a woman and two men - were among 39 others from two tour groups who visited Bali late last month, said Lin Ting, deputy director the Center for Disease Control.

“Taiwanese tourists must be careful in visiting Southeast Asia and should refrain from drinking raw water or patronizing roadside food stalls,” he said.

Ubud is beautiful. It’s great food and shopping and uh, rice paddies, which I’ve had my lifetime fill of…But it’s not the beach.
My Rough Guide shows Ubud getting over three times as much rain as Kuta during September. Do you know what form it takes?
Big cloudbursts with mostly clear skies?
Low intensity, prolonged rain and clouds?

Rainy season here really doesn’t start until around the end of October. Usually it’s a sudden heavy downpour lasting only an hour or so.
