Banjo things, instrument things

I am a banjo player. I imagine that most of my supplies (strings, banjo heads, etc) will be readily available at my nearest music store … but is that true? Is there a banjo playing population of Taiwan? I have searched and read about Tony’s, are there others? Think Taipei.

Has anyone had experience shipping instruments to Taiwan? Looking to bring a few things later in the year as time and money become more available.

Thanks!

There are a few pickers around. I, unfortunately, am not one of them. I bought a banjo in Banciao a few years ago and played around with it. A friend loaned me a couple beginner books that I didn’t get far with. He also brought an extra set of strings from the States. If you want, I would sure like to meet up and discuss more. I really need someone who can do lessons with me for an hour or two per week. I tried this once before but the instructor was in Hsinchu and we just couldn’t work out a schedule (Read “I” couldn’t)
PM me. The instrument sits forlornly in the corner and really needs to be played.

I would keep me in mind, I teach instruments here in the states and would LOVE to teach in my spare time over there.

Keep in mind that I am not over on the isle yet, my job hunt starts next school semester.

msadler1018@gmail.com is how you can get in touch with me directly.

Not Banjo strings, but I found that it was much cheaper to buy Bass strings online even when factoring in shipping. I can’t remember actually seeing banjo strings here.

Hey Gulgon, Chris (詹文光) at Tony’s speaks English (and some of the other staff probably do too), so you could email him (them) at atbmidi at yahoo dot com if you have any questions. (I just happened to get his card today as I was looking at tuners and strings.)

Banjo strings are (usually) available at Tony’s. They only have Martin ones in a gauge 9, so if that’s not to your liking, I’d suggest you bring your own. In fact… just avoid any risk and bring your own.

Be sure to let us know when you get to Taiwan. I also have a banjo I would like to play better (than totally craply), although I have a hard time getting time away from the kids for lessons, etc.

Hey all, thanks for responses.

I teach electric base, upright bass, didgeridoo, banjo, computer (yes, computer … think protools, editing software), and a few others here in the states. Would be happy to moonlight as an instructor for you guys in Taipei as soon as a job and living space is sorted out. Here is another WCIF …

Where can I find recording studios, recording equipment, etc.
